Today @marketgallery 12–5pm! 2 shred or not 2 shred: yes another archive event with @rhialaing , a 25th anniversary event! ‘After finishing up her two years on the committee in January, we have invited Rhia Laing back to activate the Market Gallery archive. Focusing on Market’s relationship with Dennistoun and broader East End communities, and the physicality of the archive itself, Rhia has selected a range of materials from across Market’s twenty five year history – photographs of community workshops and events as far back as 2000, experimental videos, exhibition materials and the gallery’s changing visual identity – offering a rare look deep into the Market Gallery archive. In addition and to celebrate the life of Market’s bulky photocopier – soon to be disposed of or passed on – Rhia has created a zine with materials from the Market Gallery archive, which includes an essay from Emmy Yoneda reflecting on the gallery’s archive. The photocopier will be available for use on the day to make and take home copies of certain materials. Alongside the event, excess publications, posters and exhibition related materials from Market or the wider Glasgow arts landscape will be available for you to take home. (These are excess copies as we always archive two of each!)’

I’m so excited for Saturday’s ‘2 shred or not shred: yes another archive event’ at Market Gallery! I was ~ sincerely honoured ~ when asked by the new committee to put on an event dealing with the archive to celebrate Market’s 25th birthday. Here’s a bit about some of my favourite things you can see tomorrow - There’s three archival films to see - two of which were made alongside kids in Dennistoun in the early 2000’s that are beautiful snapshots of life of the time. The photocopier is paying her final dues by being available for visitors to copy pieces of reading materials from previous events including 2017’s Free Market, and a 2008 event around the issues of the 2014 commonwealth games and gentrification in the east end. If you’re into early 00’s graphic design there’s loadz for you, and we’ve put together a zine with visual bits from the archive you can pick up, as well as lots of *excess* zines and posters from the archive. Saturday - from 12-5pm - ‘2 shred or not 2 shred’, 13 Ross Street

We’re so excited to welcome you to Market Gallery this Saturday - from 12-5pm - for ‘2 shred or not 2 shred’, an archive activation project curated by former committee member Rhia Laing. Come join us as we look at material from Market Gallery’s archive, some of which you can make copies of on the day using our beloved bulky photocopier! Look forward to seeing you there 💫 - - - ID: 1. Join us at Market Gallery on Saturday the 3rd of May from 12pm to 5pm as we share pieces from our archive to celebrate Market Gallery’s 25th Anniversary year!  After finishing up her two years on the committee in January, we have invited Rhia Laing back to activate the Market Gallery archive. Focusing on Market’s relationship with Dennistoun and  broader East End communities, and the physicality of the archive itself, Rhia has selected a range of materials from across Market’s twenty five year history - photographs of community workshops and events as far back as 2000, experimental videos, exhibition materials and the gallery’s changing visual identity - offering a rare look deep into the Market Gallery archive. In addition and to celebrate the life of Market’s bulky photocopier - soon to be disposed of or passed on - Rhia has created a zine with materials from the Market Gallery archive, which includes an essay from Emmy Yoneda reflecting on the gallery’s archive. The photocopier will be available for use on the day to make and take home copies of certain materials. Alongside the event, excess publications, posters and exhibition related materials from Market or the wider Glasgow arts landscape will be available for you to take home. (These are excess copies as we always archive two of each!) Rhia Laing is a Glasgow based artist who works with video. Her research based practice engages with social histories, archives and place. The event will take place in our space at 13 Ross Street, which is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible gender-neutral toilet. We have travel and childcare bursaries available, please get in touch on [email protected] to request them. In my parents 60th years I’ve been recording oral histories with them on walks in Perth of their choosing. It’s hard being faced with how frequently you use the word “like.”

Delighted that @govanhillbaths are showing the 'Sitting Tight' documentary as part of the Govanhill International Festival! 🎉 The documentary was made to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1981 Lee Jeans Factory Sit-In, and includes recreations and original music written by *supremely* talented local groups, as well as interviews with the LEGENDARY women that took part and their supporters. The event starts at 2pm with talks on Glasgow's cultural objects and the Merrylee Housing Scandal, followed by the screening of the documentary at 6pm with an introduction by myself. Free event but ticketed! Sunday 6th of August, 2:00 – 8:00pm the Deep End, 21 Nithsdale Street, Glasgow, G41 2PZ Get tickets for the whole event or just for the documentary screening through the link in @govanhillbaths bio I can't tell you how much of a pleasure it is to share the story!
