RIP to a musical giant, Chris Jasper. I think that because the Isleys' 70s and early 80s hits are so ubiquitous, and that his writing, playing, arranging, production, and programming so perfectly served the songs that many listeners understandably paid more attention to Ron's voice and Ernie's lead guitar, but the musical bed he crafted for them to float over was as great as anything from that era. His contributions (to the Isleys' catalog, and in samples of their work decades later) are huge, and he allegedly had many of those classics near their final form on his demos.
'Highways Of My Life' showcases not only Jasper's classical training, but also how quickly he and the Isley's co-opted Stevie's sound (& producers Margouleff & Cecil) and made it their own. There were a number of other songs (and OUTROs) I considered recreating, but I chose this one because I think it spotlights him more than most.

Does anyone on God's green earth have a set of Ken Rich Pianet N sticky pads I could buy? I have contacted every vintage keyboard shop and tech that I'm aware of, to no avail.
For those unfamiliar, like the Clavinet, the Pianet is a German electro-mechanical Hohner keyboard designed by Ernst Zacharias.
It is somewhat similar to the Wurli, in that it uses amplified vibrating metal reeds to produce its sound.
It's all over numerous classic tracks from the 60s-70s, including 4 Stevie Wonder songs from Music Of My Mind and Talking Book!

RIP to William Hart. His string of undeniable sweet soul hits as lead vocalist of the Delfonics with Thom Bell were the bellwether of one of the greatest moments in music history.
Unlike Thom Bell's subsequent stellar vocalists Russell Thompkins Jr and Philippé Wynne, Hart also cowrote all of the Delfonics songs with Bell (and a few on his own).
Philly Soul is synonymous with Gamble and Huff, but as their "Mighty Three Music" publishing company indicates, Bell was every bit their equal.
His work with the Delfonics set the template for his masterfully arranged, heavily orchestrated, and tenderly sung hits with the Stylistics, Spinners and many others.
