A 2021 Guggenheim Fellow, Pakistani-born and Southern California-raised Rez Abbasi continues to push boundaries from within the traditions he has embraced. Often-cited in DownBeat magazine’s International Critics Poll, he has released more than a dozen wide-ranging recordings including: Charm, a collaboration with American sitarist, Josh Feinberg; Django-shift, which recasts legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt’s lesser-known compositions; Suno Suno, which is inspired by Qawwali, spiritual music from Pakistan; several projects produced alongside Indian vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia; and Unfiltered Universe, with his long-standing group featuring band-mates Vijay Iyer and Rudresh Mahanthappa.

I would like to thank the guys very much for the great fun we had on this tour and for a lot of inspiration.
For the first two concerts, we were getting to know each other, but then it broke and it started to be a real ride. Great playing, lots of beautiful moments and a joy to share the stage with such great musicians.
I have to say I took a pretty big bite out of myself. Jazz was never my main genre and I invite an absolute top guitarist from New York who's ranked in the top 10 in Guitar Magazine alongside names like Bill Frisell and Pat Metheny. 😄 And not to mention the great Robert, with whom I am very glad that he went into it. Well, it doesn't get much better than that. It's a pleasure to have such great people around me whom I can call friends.

Narodil se v pákistánském Karáčí, ale ve čtyřech letech se přestěhoval do Ameriky, kde se vypracoval v jednoho z nejrespektovanějších jazzových kytaristů současnosti.
