We are excited to launch a new RezRoads Rescue program - the 🐾 Shiprock Pet Pantry! 🐾 ⭐ MISSION: to keep Shiprock families and their pets together. We do this by providing pet food and supplies to families experiencing financial hardship so no one is forced to decide between caring for themselves and caring for their pets. Pets are family members, too; sometimes they are the only family a person has. ⭐ RESIDENCY: Anyone who lives in the community of Shiprock or a registered Shiprock Voter is eligible for assistance. There are no income requirements. NOTE: Surrounding communities of Shiprock may be considered if food is available. ⭐ Pet food and supplies are donated, we cannot guarantee availability of specific brands or type of food. Food bags may be taped, though food is still suitable for consumption, to the best of our knowledge. 🐶This Pet Pantry is made possible by a grant for the community of Shiprock. ______________________________________________________ ➡️ PET PANTRY DRIVE-THRU DISTRIBUTION ⬅️ 🗓️ 8/30 SATURDAY 📍 SHIPROCK CHAPTER HOUSE PARKING LOT ⏱️ 8:00 AM - until supplies last

'atiin 🛣️ road • • • • Today we were at the Right place at the Right time to save 2 puppies. We were on our way to trap a female dog to be fixed, when Vernan suddenly saw something by the road. We immediately pulled over and Vernan walked back to the area. It was right in the median of a very busy highway. In some thick bushes, he found 2 terrified puppies. Another puppy was near the road, and had already been run over and passed. 💔 But we got to help the remaining 2 siblings all because of timing. When we drove by, Vernan was only able to catch a glimpse of the puppies because a crow was chasing them. So many odds against these puppies, and they caught their first stroke of luck with us. 💞 They are covered in ticks, a little traumatized but I know they'll feel safe soon. díísh jį́į́dóó 👇🏽 beginning today • • • • To the new beginnings. 🐾 I had every intention of taking a few days off to simply rest after I returned home from California. I had worked 14 hour days for 13 days straight and I needed a reset. Today was supposed to be my first full day "off" from everything. But then a message came through about puppies that were dumped in a box at a windmill. We looked up the location and it was 2 hours away. So we tried to ask around if anyone closer could go take a look, but no luck. As much as I try to plan for a break, it hardly works out. So we gave in, packed up supplies and started driving. I'm glad we acted, because when we arrived to this windmill in the middle of nowhere, we didn't just see puppies. Their mama was also right there with them. They were just the saddest looking bunch, so defeated and emaciated. Mama was a little weary so we had to lure her in the crate with food, then gathered her puppies, making sure we didn't miss one. Mama also has something going on with her left eye that will need a Vet visit. On the 2 hour drive home, they slept the entire way. They were finally safe and they knew it. 💞 Yes it was supposed to be a day off, but I figured today was meant for new beginnings. 💛

hashtł'ish tsé nádleehí 🪨 concrete • • • • We are so excited to reveal our new, improved kennel area!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 We finally have a concrete foundation! This has been a dream project of ours for so long but funding is hard to come by for big projects. But when you show how serious you are about rescue, people take you seriously. This is how we were able to get a grant through Best Friends Animal Society to upgrade our outdoor kennels. You all see how much work we put into helping rezdogs, and we are so happy our hard work is paying off little by little. We spent so much time setting up each kennel and making sure everything was perfect for the dogs. It's amazing to look back from where we started (last pic) and see how far we have come because of hard work. 💪🏽 There's still more work to be done like installing our drainage system but it's exciting work! This new foundation will provide a more sanitary environment and prevent contamination of illnesses or diseases. Which is a huge step in the right direction. We are living out our dream and we'll always aim to keep improving the care of rezdogs we rescue. 🐾

Pick-Up // Pack-Play // Drop-Off 🐶🚌 Sometimes the journey home becomes something more. While returning from Moab, our Chief Pup Officer, Johnny “Cash,” had the opportunity to be part of a collaborative effort alongside @rezroadsrescue to help connect dogs from the Navajo Nation with the @CompassionProjectRescue here in the Roaring Fork Valley. This journey was all about connection; bringing together communities, resources, and people who care deeply about dogs. 🐾 We’re grateful to be part of a network that creates new beginnings and supports dogs every step of the way. ❤️ Because being part of the pack means showing up-><-together. If you or someone you know is looking to add a pupper to the family, contact: @compassionprojectrescue 🐶 These puppies are little angels, we miss them already. 😅 #PupperBus #RezRoadsRescue #CompassionProjectRescue #RescueDogs #DogRescue

ayóó ánízáád 📍 far away • • • • Last week we got another message about an abandoned mama dog and her 4 puppies. We already had 2 mama dogs + puppies and we really couldn't bring in more. But no one was caring for them and mama was so skinny trying to keep her puppies fed. Ugh it broke us and we decided to go out and help. This decision was quite literally a life and death decision, as we come to find out. We met the lady that found them and followed her to their location. We got off the main highway and got on the dirt road and drove for 30 minutes to the middle of nowhere with only a few houses miles apart. We finally got to the house mama wandered to and my goodness it was so far and deep into the rez, it was a guarantee no one would have come for them. When we saw mama, she was in such a sorry state - completely emaciated, tick infested and hanging on for dear life. Only one puppy was following mama, so we had to search the entire area to find the rest of the puppies. We spotted them underneath an abandoned car and one by one, quickly caught them. Mama dog, however, was hesitant. So we put some food in the crate and she was so hungry, she went right in and we quietly walked over and closed the crate door. Whew! Lately, with these mama dogs in such rough situations, we felt like the last hope in their harsh reality. 😔 It's sad and a huge relief at the same time but now they are with us, and we'll give them everything they never had. 💞 Everyone has been doing so much better! Mama is gaining weight and starting to accept love, her puppies are chunky, sweet, and playful goofballs now. In such little time, so much has changed for them and what a wonderful beginning to start anew. 🐾 "I will learn you so gently you won't even realize how carefully I'm choosing every way to keep you safe."

'amá 🐾 mother • • • • Last week we got an urgent message about bottle babies that were saved from being killed. The person that saved them put herself in danger just to save the last 2 babies from a tragic end. Unfortunately the rest of the litter could not be saved. 💔 We immediately met the person to pickup the 2 babies and brought them home. Thankfully they were in good shape and were not injured. I tried to bottle feed them but they were not having it. They were actually about the same size as the babies from our Heeler mama from Many Farms, so I wondered if mama would accept them. I figured I'd try since mama was doing so much better. As soon as mama saw the babies she was jumping up and down like gimme gimme my babies. 🤗 Without hesitation, mama quickly took them in and started licking them like her own. The babies latched on to her right away and it was the perfect outcome we could hope for. Remember, mama lost two of her babies the day we pulled them from the shelter. Now mama is giving these two babies a chance, without a second thought, she decided to be their mother. ♥️ Thank you to @pageanimaladoptionagency for accepting this mama and her babies and finding them a foster! neeznáá 🔟 ten • • • • This week started off tough. But even on our off days, there are rescue requests that simply cannot wait. On Sunday we were notified about a mama dog and her 10 puppies that were abandoned in a neighborhood at the Maintenance yard. That's right, 10 whole puppies! We wrapped up our Pet Pantry distribution and had so much to do at home we didn't get to go look until Monday morning. When we arrived, all the puppies were laying in the sun along the fence line that was right next to a busy highway. A lady nearby stopped and told us mama dog had been a stray in the neighborhood for more than a year. The workers would feed her so mama was super friendly. Then mama had her babies under the shed and that's all they've known. How could we leave them there? We couldn't. So we loaded them up and made space that we didn't have so they could be safe. Mama dog's teets were irritated and scratched up from all her puppies depending on her. She was 100% ready to let them be on their own so we had to separate her. Mama is much better and happy she did her job and now she gets to relax. Her puppies are old enough to be without her and adjusting well. It's really hard when there are absolutely ZERO options for these abandoned dogs. If we didn't step in, the puppies would have surely been taken, disappeared, run over or hit by a vehicle. That was their fate if we didn't do something but we couldn't sit back and do nothing. Now they are all happier, chunkier, more playful rezdogs. 💞 That's the rescue determination, sometimes you have to make the impossible, possible. 🐾

nihíká’díílwoł 🫴🏽 help us! • • • • Our Pet Pantry drive thru distribution is always busy with many pet parents that need help with pet food! It is tough, tough work to coordinate and execute this drive thru for our Navajo communities but we get it done! We were able to bring 2 trailers with 7 pallets of food. 🙌🏽 Today it was 5 hours of nonstop work on our feet, lifting up to 50lbs bags, back and forth, loading into vehicles. Thankfully we got 1 volunteer that came and it helped us big time! It was really great to see the rezdogs come out and wait in line for their food and treats, a pet rabbit also came through! 🐇 Tomorrow we head out again bright and early to ensure pets stay fed and don't go hungry. It's even Chantal's birthday tomorrow and we are celebrating by doing what we love - assisting our community pets! 🐾 We would love more helping hands, come out and volunteer with us! Today we provided food for: 162 families 637 dogs 435 cats 33 chickens 12 horses 5 pigs 3 rabbits 3 fish 1 duck

doo yáʼátʼéeh da ⛔ not good • • • • Tick season is in full swing! The real heatwave hasn't arrived yet but we are seeing dogs already infested with ticks. So we are in for a bad tick summer. Early this week we were notified by @souldogrezcue about a mama and her newborns that were struggling after being surrendered to Navajo Nation Animal Control. We knew if they stayed there, it wouldn't be good for them so our driver Sherrie drove 2 hours one way to get them. By the time she got there, one of the babies had already passed away. 💔 Then when she arrived at our house, another 2 hours later, 2 more babies were visibly struggling. I got my eyes on mama and I could see why her babies weren't doing well. Mama was skinny, severely dehydrated like her babies and completely covered from head to toe in ticks. The ticks were draining everything from her, she barely had anything left for her babies. The 2 struggling babies went to bottle baby foster Sara right away, but sadly 1 baby passed shortly after. 💔 What started as a litter of 8 babies, went down to 6 babies in the span of 5 hours after we were notified. They surely would not have lasted another day in the shelter. We have mama on a 3-4 hour feeding schedule with puppy food, formula and high protein wet food mixed together. Of course access to fresh water too. We treated her with tick oil and the ticks are slowly shedding. Every 2 hours I check on her and when she shakes, the amount of the big ticks that fall fill the palm of my hand. That doesn't include the million small brown ticks on her. But slowly, each day, they are doing better. ❤️‍🩹 Then we got a litter of 5 puppies that were packed with ticks as well. They are certainly feeling much better today. Tick prevention will be key this summer for your pets. Start preparing!
