105 years ago, on September 22, 1921, a theater was constructed in a Palladian-inspired style and was built for Irving Berlin. They called it The Music Box Theater. In that space, there is a history of magnificent performances, including Marlon Brando, Humphrey Bogart, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, Amanda Plumber, Angela Lansbury, Alan Rickman, and the list goes on.
And fortunately, for all of us, magnificent performances are happening there right now. Add to that list JOHN LITHGOW. He is currently starring in the play, Giant. I’ve known John since 1992 and he is a dear friend. I’ve watched his career in its entirety. And I will tell you this, he’s never been better than he is right now. At 80 years old he’s at the top of his game and it’s so thrilling to watch on the stage. His TONY nominated performance is mesmerizing. Reba (and the team!) and I were captivated every minute of the performance. Do yourself a big favor.
Lots of love to you, John, and thank you and the entire cast for that experience.
Reba and I recently spent a couple of days in Austin, attending the magnificent MJ&M event, where we helped raise $10 million to empower the children. The kids we met were so courageous. So enlightening. It was great catching up with Coach Brown and my old pal Matthew. Met Coach Sarkisian and had a great visit. We joined Coach Brown and Matthew on the stage to auction off a set visit to our third season of Happy‘s Place coming up this fall. And meeting my new golf partner for the day, Sergio Garcia. Hook ‘em!
Lucky. That’s how I’ve felt regarding my career in the past 36 years. Plenty of lows and lots of highs. So when I was asked to do a one hour Q&A with Mr. Duvall at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, I was petrified. He was one of my heroes and now I would be asking him questions in front of a huge audience. And I knew from years past that he could be pretty brutal in an interview.
I was fortunate enough to have 30 minutes with him privately before getting on the stage. Then I buckled up and escorted him to the stage to begin the Q&A. It turned out to be one of the highlights in my career.
As we left the stage, Mr. Duvall said, “that was nice.” I couldn’t help myself. I turned to him and said, “ I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man.” I told him it was one of my all-time favorite quotes in film history. He smiled a little bit and said, “mine too.”
Thank you for it all, Mr. Duvall. No one will ever forget you.
Rex and I had a wonderful Sonic Valentine’s Day Lunch a little northeast of LA.
I ventured away from my regular order of a #1 number cheeseburger, no onions, to the newly added Smashburger. While it was great, I’m still partial to Rex’s homemade one! 😉 Rex had the foot-long cheese coney with jalapeños. And of course, we had tots! We finished with an incredible mouth-watering chocolate peanut butter shake. Amazing!
Happy Valentine’s Day to each and every one of you! Now go out and have a Sonic Valentine’s Day experience!! It will change your life and make your pocketbook happy!😃
Signed,
The Tots
Attended a special screening for a very special film this past Saturday night. Reba was asked to introduce Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson‘s new film, SONG SUNG BLUE. It’s tender, soulful, rowdy and romantic. It’ll make you laugh. It’ll make you cry. It will inspire you to sing along. A must see.
Celebrated my 69th birthday with the love of my life on set at the best job I’ve ever had! Thank you to everybody at @nbchappysplace for a fantastic birthday! #hookemhorns
