With Project Zero, the goal was simple: close the loop.
Spent grain from brewing is composted by @rexius_ , that compost feeds the farm soil where hops from @yakimachief are grown, and those hops return to @coldfire_brewing to create the next batch — making a beer that’s not just flavorful, but cyclical.
Learning to grow beautiful flowers takes time, patience, and good soil. Here’s to the local, the genuine, and the simple joys of flowers grown close to home.

You know you’re a farmer when... you get excited about compost! 🌱
Since the launch of Project Zero, we’ve teamed up with our friends at @YakimaChief and @Rexius_ to explore new ways to boost our hop composting program. Our friends at @ColdFire_Brewing send spent grain to Rexius, where it’s turned into OMRI-listed compost, a.k.a. “black gold.”
Now that nutrient-rich compost has come full circle, returning to our Alluvial Hop Farm to feed next year’s hop crop. We will be conducting trials with Rexius compost and biochar as we work to determine the optimal blend that could reduce fertilizer needs, increase crop yields, and potentially aid in carbon sequestration. Exciting stuff for dirt lovers like us!

This spring, we spent the morning with Bethany and her team at @charleslittleandco planting pansies in newly created beds. It was one of several projects where she used Rexius compost to give the soil a fresh start. 🌸
Earlier this year we delivered compost to @charleslittleandco . Flowers may steal the spotlight, but growers know where the real excitement begins—in the soil. Sometimes that’s best celebrated snow-angel style!
