Vertical Anamorphic Build Breakdown Me in college, ā€œI’ll never 1st again in my life.ā€ā€ØStill true, I love 2nding. Long story short, I’ve always loved being a 2nd AC and never really enjoyed being a 1st AC, so I just stayed in that lane. But when my long term collaborator and friend @jacobho__ is DPing and called, I guess I will show up for once. It’s a very rare occasion, so figured I’d document this build. The challenge was to be able to jump between vertiscope and traditional anamorphic, while still keeping handheld capability on the horizontal side. The transition needs to be fast hence no rebuilding of any kind. To get close to ā€œopen gateā€ on 16:9 without losing pixels, you need a 2x anamorphic squeeze. Problem is 2x lenses are usually massive and heavy, which doesn’t work well with a small body like the ZR. These @blazarlens.official Cato lenses are light enough that I could get away with supporting the PL adapter off the plate with a 1/4 20ā€ screw + washers. To jump between vertical and horizontal, I built two configurations using two dovetails + touch & go plates. One regular, one on an L bracket. The whole build slides in and out of the dovetails. Also opted for a rotatable top/side handle for a solid grab point for the rig in both modes. Gained a whole new level of respect for my 1st AC friends after this. Y’all are crazy. #imax

Had the chance to fully rig the NikonZR for a short film recently! @rex_wch did the incredible job of building the camera both for horizontal and vertical shooting as we needed both 2.39.1 & 1.33:1 2x anamorphic for the visuals of this film. Special thanks to @atlasatl for all the accessories and @bairn for the Blazar Cato 2x šŸ™ @zcinema @blazarlens.official @tiltamax @tag_it_tags

Amazon $30 tube light vs $1.1k industry standard tube lightšŸ’” Comment ā€œlightingā€ below to get the Amazon link to the light I bet no one is going to read through long captions like this so I’m just gonna nerd out a little for anyone interested. Also I’ve shifted my focus more toward video & film in recent years, less photography. Haven’t really posted much about it, apologies! As much as I love working with a lot of money, crew and gear, I often always find myself doing travel & guerrilla style work by myself. Yet I still need to make every frame look great. I would have to fit everything in my backpack and luggage when traveling to avoid overweight fees. The kit gets really stripped down, talking about only an fx3, 3 lenses & gimbal. Maybe a 60w head or small tubes & accessories plus my personal items but weight adds up fast. A titan kit w/light socks are always in my package on bigger shoots, I don’t use them often but they are super useful when I need a fill or sth here and there. Stumbled across this inflatable tube light on Amazon one day. It’s bi color, collapses to pocket size, water & drop proof, has mounting points… basically a dumbed down helios + sock for $30. Too good to be true, took it out to test and I’m IMPRESSED!!! Metered it out comparing to a titan tube w/sock, not the most scientific / fair test coz they are in different sizes, output, full color vs bi color and have different diffusion but and here’re the results. Titan w/sock 5600k & 3200k full brightness: f4, ~100 kelvin shift. Inflatable tube sock: f5.6, 16 kelvin shift at 5600k! It does tint magenta at 3200k, requiring a 1/4 + green correction gel. In simple terms: the $30 tube’s diffusion is as thin as a 253/hamp diff so it’s less soft but that also means relatively more output. It’s accurate at 5600K but tints heavily magenta at 3200K. I was low key expecting it to be junk but it completely blew me away even when compared to a light 36 times more expensive. Never seen anything like this on the market @ulanzi.official if you are reading this you guys are amazing, keep up the good work! #videolight #lighting #videolighting #tubelight #cinematicreels

Here’s a reminder to romanticize your life and a behind the scenes look at how I shot a cinematic shot of my birthday cake with my iPhone. I bet nobody is gonna read this, so let’s talk about something else lol. Growing up, I always thought I’d achieve something big and amazing by a certain age. But as I get older, I realise I’m not even close to where I wanted to be. Every birthday after 20 felt miserable, like a reminder that I wasn’t young anymore. They have been some of the rougher days. This year felt different. Not sure why but maybe I’ve started to accept and embrace the small things in life. Not because everything is perfect but because even the little moments like a beautifully shot birthday cake I didn’t even eat are still worth appreciating. #bts #cinematic #trendingreels #birthday

2024: Quarter life crisis is real This year felt stuck – the first time I have looked back and thought I didn’t achieve anything. Realised how cruel the world can be, mistreated, disappointed, lost trust along the way. People really do spend their time and effort making sure you feel miserable and don’t perform your best. It is tough when your circumstances clash with your mental state and the way you operate. It wasn’t all bad. I quit smoking, traveled a bunch, had two surgeries, went under full anesthesia for the first time in life (terrifying but kinda fun) Met some amazing souls and saw people for who they really are. Rich in life, poor in cash has never felt more true this year. Thank you for being there when I needed it the most, you know who you are, thank you. Thank you, for the love and hugs, I mean this from the bottom of my heart. There were close calls, broken trust and moments that made me question everything. That’s life, sometimes you feel like you are falling off the edge of the world but you end up discovering new ground. Here’s to all the kind souls. Thank you for reminding me that there’s still beauty out there. Thank you for being part of my 2024 - I hope we all remember the good things that happened. āœØāœØšŸ¤ åøŒęœ›å¤§å®¶éƒ½čؘ得 ę‰€ęœ‰ē™¼ē”ŸéŽå˜…ē¾Žå„½.
