1. If you ain't red-lining...
Now I know we all heard of this. But if the mixer looks like a Christmas tree, you’re doing it wrong. Playing louder doesn't make it better, it just makes it sound cheap and distorted. 🔇
2. Overextending your set
Ok, a minute or two won't hurt. But playing "one more song" again and again is just disrespectful to the timetable and the artist after you. 🛑
3. Leaving the dj booth messy
The second your set is over, grab your headphones and USBs, clear your bottles and move. The DJ booth isn't a lounge or a place for a 10-minute photoshoot while the next DJ is trying to mix in. 📸
4. The "Ego" Handover
Leaving the next DJ with 10% trim volume, weird EQ settings and reverb on 100% is amateur move number 1. Set the stage, be a pro, and ensure a seamless transition. 🤝
5. Being a dick
Your guestlist is full, the crowd is cheering and everyone's dancing? Bro, it doesn't make you superhuman, it's your job. Just be nice to everyone, including the staff, the crowd and other artists.

1️⃣ Leave your ego at home
The opening set isn't your headline debut. If you’re dropping mainstage bangers at 10:00 PM to an empty dancefloor, you aren't "killing it" – you're making it impossible for the headliner to build tension.🤷🏼♂️
2️⃣ Read the room, not the screen
Since the room is likely not filled right at the beginning, pay attention to who is there. Keep the volume slightly lower if people are still talking or nudge the energy up if they start to move. Your eyes are your greatest tool.👀
3️⃣ Don’t play the Headliner’s hits
Now this is obvious but it can't be stressed enough. Just avoid playing their tracks or songs they are famous for remixing. Except for when your goal is not to get booked again...🥴
4️⃣ Respect the "Sonic Ceiling"
One of the biggest mistakes an opener can make is maxing out the volume too early. You need to leave the headliner somewhere to go. So keep your gain in check and let the room breathe.😮💨
5️⃣ Be professional
This one goes without saying. Just be nice to the promoter, bar staff and the technicians. Be on time, test the levels, and make sure the transition to the next DJ is seamless. A happy staff is the foundation for your next booking!
