This project feels like the purest embodiment of my journey as an interdisciplinary artist from Jos, navigating the diaspora, longing for home, and constantly nurturing what it means to move through life with a Pan-African worldview.
Black Rocks didn’t start as songs. Ideas came first as paintings. Brushstrokes slowly evolved into beats. Beats transformed into bars. And over time, all these pieces began revealing themselves as one conceptual body, it honestly felt like a spiritual experience.
I spent long hours with my saxophone, chasing melodies until they became stories. I spent even longer hours in isolation, detached from the matrix, searching for clarity, reading up on history, and finding peace. This album grew out of that stillness, that need to reconcile where I’m from, where I am, and where I’m going.
Today, I feel fulfilled by what this project has become, and even more excited for the growth, the evolution, and the worlds yet to be created.
