it’s always good to take a moment to (re)connect amidst the day-to-day chaos...
for those who are new here, welcome — i’m bari, a modern abstract painter + mixed-media artist based in (stellar, awesome, inspiring) chicago...
and for those of you who have been here with me for a while, thank you for your energy, thoughtful questions, and keen interest in the work i’m doing + ideas i’m sharing...
i talk about speaking in color, creating work that speaks in color, and the deeply felt emotional resonance of color...color is a lingua franca that transcends...acting as connector, builder, invitation to dialogue + true openness
these are central tenets of my work and at the core of the way my work makes + takes space and carries meaning in(to) the world
(with a deep academic background in psycholinguistics, it’s not surprising that i’m obsessed with language + color as language)
color is my medium, my language; with it i create spaces ripe with, and for, transformation
my work resonates with collectors, designers, and collaborators who:
—seek out evocative, thought-provoking statement pieces that spark conversation
—are not afraid of bold color, texture, gesture
—crave art that speaks deeply + viscerally and challenges us to see, feel, and think differently
—are themselves explorers, experimenters, different thinkers

texture in artwork creates a complexity and richness that goes far below the surface
this texture comes from the medium, the process, the surface, the colors, the way the piece engages the light, the way the piece layers into + plays with the designed space and everything around it...
we crave texture in our living + working spaces — it invokes depth, personality, mood, sensory + cognitive interest, richness, contrast, and complexity without noise...
texture engages our hearts + our brains, centers our emotions + nervous systems
texture is an integral part of my work — in the pieces themselves and in the ways in which they live in spaces and bring rhythm and wholeness, satisfying to the senses and to the body + mind
