“If you haven’t been, I strongly suggest you go.”
A girl who returned from Canada brought her partner she met there to Taiwan for their wedding.
The ceremony was held in a Taiwanese heritage site, following a traditional local wedding flow and serving classic Taiwanese dishes. It wasn’t just a wedding, it felt like a cultural experience.
When the first dish, tangyuan (sweet glutinous rice balls), was served, I watched a foreign guest try to pick them up with chopsticks.
“It’s a challenge,” I said, and we both laughed lol.
I’d heard before that many Westerners aren’t fond of chewy, sticky textures, it’s something unfamiliar in their food memories.
So when the white fungus drink came out, their faces were just as funny as I expected lol.
After this trip to Taiwan, I saw the groom post on Instagram:
“If you haven’t been, I strongly suggest you go.”
And that made me quietly, genuinely happy.
