🆘💔🆘 HAIL MARY‼️ NEEDS EXIT BY EOD TUESDAY 05/19‼️ 4 YO, 8.9 lbs Lucy (#A2272417) was heartbreakingly surrendered to the shelter on 05/13/26 because her family could no longer afford the medical care she desperately needs after suffering a fractured leg.😢 We still do not know exactly how the fracture happened, but her owners said they had already taken her to the vet on 05/01/26 and tried to help her before making the devastating decision to give her up.💔 I saw Lucy being surrendered while volunteering at the shelter, and it was absolutely heartbreaking. Her owner gently gave her a kiss on the head goodbye before handing her over.😢 It was clear Lucy was deeply loved, and this was not an easy choice. No family should have to lose their dog because of expensive medical bills.💔 Now Lucy sits alone in the medical ward, scared, injured, and confused. Despite everything she’s been through, she remains sweet, easy to handle during exams, and melts for treats and gentle kindness.🥺 She is receiving extra TLC from staff, but Lucy urgently needs medical care beyond what the shelter can provide. Please don’t let this tiny girl’s story end here. She is only 4 years old and still has so much life and love ahead of her.🙏 She needs a rescue, foster, adopter, or someone willing to step up before it’s too late. Please share Lucy everywhere for a safe exit. Her life truly depends on it.🆘💔 🔔Rescues can’t save dogs without a committed foster or pledges! 📍North Central Animal Services Center: 3201 Lacy Street, Los Angeles, CA 90031 OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Tues- Fri 8-5; Sat/Sun 11-5. Not only is Alma a total sweetheart with dogs, people, and even toddlers, she also listens so well to CUES: sit, down, spin around, paw, high five, eye contact, drop it, and has great impulse control! 🫡✨ Rescued just before euthanasia, this angel is now looking for a FAMILY TO LOVE.. 🩷 Alma, 6 yrs, 63lbs, female (spayed) • Potty, crate, house trained (she also knows how to use pee pads!) • People, large dog and toddler-friendly (Alma has been tested with one senior tiny small. Sniffed and mingled) • Low energy: 20 min walk (aside from her potty walks) and she's good for the day!🚶 • Affectionate and mellow • Enjoys company and also does well alone • Not bothered by loud sounds such as honks, fireworks or vacuums 📢 Alma is currently being fostered in DTLA. Please contact: @_stephanie_chung_ or @hope4sweethomes for more info

💔Adorable 2 YO, 16.2 lbs Candy Apple (#A2269580) came into the shelter as a stray, and heartbreakingly, no one ever came looking for him.😔 This tiny boy is terrified and completely overwhelmed by the loud, frightening shelter environment. When I visited him, Candy Apple was hiding inside the cubby, trembling with fear.😢 I quietly stepped into the kennel and sat on the floor, placing a treat in my hand, hoping to show him he was safe. He slowly crept over to sniff it, but he was far too nervous to even eat. His little body shook the entire time.😭 I tried gently encouraging him out, but fear had completely taken over. After finally getting him into the indoor M&G room, he slowly wandered around and immediately pooped, likely from pure stress and anxiety.💔 It was heartbreaking to see how scared and unsure he was. But even through all that fear, Candy Apple still wanted to trust.🥺 After some time, he cautiously came over to sniff me. He allowed soft pets on his head and little booty scratches that made his tail start to wag. Soon, he began exploring more comfortably and eventually placed his tiny paws on my leg as if asking for comfort and reassurance. By the end of our time together, this sweet boy was giving gentle tail wags and showing the loving soul hiding beneath all the fear.🥹 Candy Apple does not belong in a shelter kennel trembling alone. He deserves patience, safety, love, and a family who will never abandon him. Please don’t let this precious boy spend another day scared and forgotten behind kennel doors.🙏 Please help Candy Apple by adopting, fostering, pledging, or sharing so he can finally leave the shelter and find the loving forever home he desperately needs. 🐾💕 🔔Rescues can’t save dogs without a committed foster or pledges! 📍North Central Animal Services Center: 3201 Lacy Street, Los Angeles, CA 90031 OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Tues- Fri 8-5; Sat/Sun 11-5. 📣UPDATE: ADOPTED!🎉 💔7 YO, 9.8 lbs Paloma (#A2272148) was heartlessly surrendered on 5/12. This tiny girl is confused, scared, and struggling to understand why the family she loved left her behind at the shelter.😢 When I approached her kennel, Paloma was already at the front, whining softly and pleading to come out. I leashed her at the door and carried her to the indoor meet-and-greet room. Once inside, she cautiously explored, hopping onto the ledge to sniff around before slowly making her way back to me. A few moments later, she climbed gently onto my lap, her little tail wagging as if she was desperately searching for comfort and reassurance.🥺 I later walked her to the outside yard. She walked nicely on leash until the nearby dogs began barking, which frightened her. She quickly scurried past them, clearly overwhelmed by the loud shelter environment. Once inside the yard, she stayed glued to my side with her tail tucked, appearing afraid of the dog in the neighboring yard. Even so, she wanted so badly to trust. She followed closely everywhere I walked, looking to me for safety. After some reassurance, she carefully approached the fence for a brief greeting before retreating back to my side. Paloma is not aggressive or demanding, she’s simply scared, heartbroken, and longing to feel safe again. No dog should have to spend their days trembling in a loud kennel after losing the only home they knew.💔 Please, Paloma desperately needs a loving adopter, foster, or rescue to save her before the shelter breaks her spirit completely.🙏😭 🔔Rescues can’t save dogs without a committed foster or pledges! 📍North Central Animal Services Center: 3201 Lacy Street, Los Angeles, CA 90031 OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Tues- Fri 8-5; Sat/Sun 11-5. UPDATE: Rescued by @goldenyearsdogsanctuary 🎊🎊Please see link in their bio to honor pledges! Je t'aime, Louie 💕 Little senior Louie was brought to the shelter on April 13th. The person who surrendered him wrote in their owner surrender form that Louie belonged to their mom. The mother became sick and the extended family could not keep Louie because of allergies. So at 10 years old, little Louie now finds himself living in a kennel 💔Louie is being treated for alopecia so his kennel is inside, out of public view, to keep him close to the medical staff. Treats are the way to this little man's heart. He likes to sit up high, right next to the humans. He'll daintily chill by your side politely just waiting for a tiny treat morsel. He seems to enjoy receiving pets after he's gotten comfortable and will climb up in a lap if he's feeling brave. He has a soft mouth and precious turned out little paws. Louie as described by his owner: 🩷Shy for a few minutes with strangers 🩷Pulls lightly on leash 🩷Is well behaved when left alone in the house or yard 🩷Called exuberant with other dogs He was in one playgroup and he mingled, didn't play, was anxious & tolerant. Louie now just waits for a loving, committed person looking to give a good pup a second chance in their later years. If that's you, VISIT THE SHELTER & ASK TO MEET LOUIE ❣️Let's keep his shelter stay as short as possible. UPDATE 5/17/26: Adopted or rescued Frijole is an adorable black senior chihuahua who ended up at the shelter as a stray and is in need of a home. He was curious, watching everyone walk by, and tilting his head when he heard loud sounds. He came over to me wagging his tail and sat next to me for pets and scratches. I thought it was funny that he’d take treats from my hand and drop them on the ground before he ate them. This little guy is ready to be adopted today! 💚 Please share, offer to foster for a rescue, or pledge. If you’re interested in adopting Frijole, come to @friendsofnorthcentralshelter and ask a volunteer to meet him. Peggy is one of the participants of @k9youthalliance GRADUATION SHOW this Saturday (5/9)! Come watch Peggy perform and meet her in person! 🤩 Peggy arrived at the shelter as a stray in January. Day after day, this is her life: resting on a cold, hard floor, patiently waiting for the moment she’s allowed out of her kennel for a walk. Even in this stressful environment, Peggy’s gentle, mellow demeanor remain. She’s captured the hearts of volunteers with her kind nature, and was even selected by @k9youthalliance for their Enrichment Training program! In playgroups with other dogs, her description includes: "gentle, dainty, assertive, helper, social, low energy" Peggy longs for a home. She longs for a bed, anything but concrete 💔 Peggy #A2250558 4 yrs, 72 lbs, female (spayed) ***Now available for adoption AND FOSTER! UPDATE 5/11/26: Rescued by @rescuealldogsco Luna was first adopted from LAAS in 2013 when she was an adorable little puppy. In fact, her photo at the time was a bunch a puppies in a basket. Fast forward to 2026, she was surrendered at the age of 12 for multiple reasons including: “move” and “I’m too old to take care of it”…It?! Her owner surrender notes states that she is blind and has allergies, she likes to eat and sleep and is a “couch potato”, and she has “no interests/no activities”. The response when asked about what command she knows was “I don’t know!” And sadly, she slept in a dog house outside. I spent time with her last weekend and she is beautiful and gentle and quiet. It was sad to see the condition she is in, moving very slowly, bumping into walls, missing so much hair, and now living in a loud shelter. I let her take her time to get comfortable, as I didn’t want to startle her. She walked passed me for a while and then she sat next to me and allowed pets. She wanted to be close. Even then, she’d face away from me, with her head down. Eventually she ate treats from my hand and layed down while I pet her. Please help get this senior girl into a loving home. She deserves so much more than this. 💗 Please share, offer to foster for a rescue, or pledge. If you’re interested in adopting Luna, come to @friendsofnorthcentralshelter and ask a volunteer to meet her (she’s kenneled inside). UPDATE: Rosie has been rescued by @socalbulldogrescue Pledges for Rosie can be honored at Rosie is in need of some TLC! She’s got a list of medical issues that need to be addressed…her ears and paws are very thick, she’s got periodontal disease, dry eye, and more. But even with all of that, you’re not going to find a nicer dog! 💕 Rosie adores people. She is a major cuddler, loves to be close, and gaze softly into your eyes. She gladly accepted pets and treats from every volunteer we came by. I can’t say enough about this sweet girl. While she is getting medical care at the shelter, she needs more care than is available there. 💗 Please share, offer to foster for a rescue, or pledge. If you’re interested in adopting Rosie, come to @friendsofnorthcentralshelter and ask a volunteer to meet her (she’s kenneled inside).
