On to my fourth week of marathon training! Things Iāve learned to far this training cycle:
āš½Itās okay to be flexible and adjust the times/content of your training runs and cross training as long as it makes sense in your program and is going to set you up for success in the long term!
āš½Coming up with mental strategies for yourself is EVERYTHING. Think about 3-4 ways you can distract your mind when things start to get hard or mantras you can repeat to yourself. My favorites lately have been thoroughly thinking through the things that Iām going to do after my run and thinking about the accomplishment I want to FEEL after itās over
āš½Getting enough sleep (a quality 8-9 hours) the night before a long run makes a huge difference for me - prioritizing rest is something I struggle with, but I can see the results when I make myself sleep more
āš½Pre-run fuel - making sure Iām hydrated AF before a hard effort and also if Iām even a little bit hungry, Iāll have a peanut butter toast before a long run or speed workout. Having enough energy to make it through the end of a workout feeling strong starts with proper nutrition
Excited to see what comes next āļø
Friday has always been my familyās sacred pizza night and itās a tradition that Iāve always carried with meā„ļø
Itās always pizza Friday before Saturday long runs for me š
Whatās your pre-long run rituals?
Thoughts from this mornings run: if you want something to change, you have to change it. Itās not just going to magically happen because youāve been thinking about it.
šØIf you want to get faster, you have to run faster.
šIf you want to run more consistently, you need a plan.
šIf you want to run further, you have to push through discomfort.
š If you want to become a morning runner, you have to wake up earlier.
š§š½āāļøIf you want to make more running friends, you have to seek out a community.
Everything is possible, but you have to put in the hard work. There are no shortcuts to making your dream come true.
