JAS x ASHA x MELLE x QUITA x TOYA x CHERELLE x FELICIA
The Concrete Goddesses linked up at Muve Media Studios in Albee Square Mall on a Fall day in 1999 for REPRESENT Pt. 7
Here at REPRESENT we aim to provide a truly vintage experience as if you hopped in a time machine & had the photo shoot that you always wanted to do from back in the days. I’m proud of what we’ve done with this series as we continue to grow with each part that originally started in Fort Greene Projects.
On Sunday March 19th, we bring you an even iLLer experience as legendary photographers @jamelshabazz x @kmelb7 come together with our own @anthonybgeathers & @ahmaadnyc for REPRESENT PT. 8 (The Hair Show). If you’re interested in participating feel free to send a message

“BIG STEPPIN” {Gowanus Houses, Brooklyn 1994}
Crystal x Joanna x Denise x Damaris from the “Gowanus Wildcats Drill Team” at Inter-National Dance Week at Albee Square Mall back on April 30th, 1994 which also happened to be 11 days after the release of Nas’s iconic “iLLmatic” album.
Here’s an Immaculate Visual of legendary Gowanus Wildcats Drill Team dancing in the food court of the iconic Albee Square Mall that was located in Downtown Brooklyn.
The GOWANUS WILDCATS DRILL TEAM, is an all-female drill team which originated in September 1970 in the Gowanus Houses Community Center in Brooklyn, New York that has now been around for over 50 years.
Their instructor is Renee “Juice” Flowers who is an original member that took over leadership of the drill team in 1972.
This is a very rare visual from an era & a place that’s special in a lot of our hearts. The amazing talent, beauty & culture that embodied Black people from the hoods of NYC. A time before social media & a time where we all danced & celebrated life together. This is Black History in its truest form & the contributions of these women should be respected & acknowledged.
The REPRESENT series will always give flowers to the ones that paved the way & help create the blueprint for many others to follow.
I would like to give much Love & Praise to Ms. Renee “Juice” Flowers for providing this from her archives. The world deserves to see it. All credit goes to the Gowanus Wildcats Drill Team page on Facebook as I was able to discover this while doing my research on the Old Brooklyn area that I was blessed to grow up in. The REPRESENT page sends all love & praises to this amazing woman & all the Concrete Goddesses from the Gowanus Housing Projects in Brooklyn! Long Live Albee Square Mall 👑👑👑👑👑

“FAMILY AFFAIR” {Park Slope, Brooklyn NYC 2001}
City x Ched x Yani x Crystal x Yani at Howard University Homecoming in 2001. 👑👑👑👑👑
Yani & her homegirls from Howard University showing that early 2000s style & beauty. Back when the HBCU homecomings were a staple in Black communities across America.
Outside may have changed with the influence of the social media era but what always remains is the memories & spirit of the previous eras. Back then you had to be there in order to truly live the experience. These women still hang out to this day & that’s how you know it was live!
Much love to @tsunamiyani for blessing us with another Immaculate Reflection from the early 2000s. REPRESENT PT. 11 in April

Gail x Gladys x Tameeka x Nicole 👑👑👑👑
Some of Park Hill’s finest wearing those classic kicks back in 1998.
The Concrete Goddesses walked the concrete blocks with the Nike Air Max & Air Max Plus with a mix of grit, beauty & elegance that could only be embodied by a certain type of Essence.
When the fly Soles matched the fly Souls. Never forget the trendsetters & the legends who walked, ran & then flew to the highest of levels.
REPRESENT Part 11 photo/video shoot will be taking place in April. You don’t wanna miss this epic episode. Stay Fly!

“SOUTHSIDE” {Jamaica, Queens NYC 2004}
Stacie from Southside Jamaica, Queens at The Colosseum in 2004.
This picture was taken at the photo shop they had in the basement of The Coliseum that was past the jewelers.
There’s so much beautiful Black history that walked through those Coliseum doors & it was made by the people from NYC. The building may have now seen its end but the essence will always be there.
There’s absolutely gentrification can do to remove the history & culture that each one of us made in that place. This one hurts just like when they closed the original Albee Square Mall as Jamaica Ave is currently going through the same things that Fulton Street Mall in Brooklyn went through.
These transplants & gentrifiers will never replace the energy & no matter what we will always REPRESENT the real NYC, not this superficial corporate fake shit.
Much love to @stacieselise for blessing the REPRESENT page with another blast from the past. A Concrete Goddess for life! 👑🙌🏾
Long Live The Coliseum
