Today, I introduced the Maddie’s Infant Recovery and Children’s Legislative Emergency, or MIRACLE Act, to study Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS).
As the opioid and drug epidemics spread through communities in Central Washington, and across the country, there is very little being done to address its impacts on the next generation.
NAS is a critical condition that puts newborns in a situation they had no control over, with serious, lasting implications threatening their health early on.
This legislation directs federal resources to expand our understanding of NAS, close gaps in research and data on how it affects babies, and ensure we are equipped to treat this condition through our federal healthcare system.
Thank you to the National Congress of American Indians for inviting me to speak about my bipartisan, bicameral legislation, the Parity for Tribal Law Enforcement Act, addressing hiring and retention challenges for tribal law enforcement agencies in Central Washington and across the country.
Thank you @tricityregionalchamber for inviting me to give an update from D.C. on everything from small business tax relief to the new VA clinic coming to the Tri-Cities. We have accomplished a great deal this year, but we have plenty of work ahead of us as Congress returns from recess!
Great to hear from Secretary Brooke Rollins today at the Appropriations Committee budget hearing for USDA. I look forward to working with her to expand market access, protect American farmland from the CCP, and support research and innovation in the agriculture industry.
Great to hear from the Seattle and Portland Chambers during their D.C. visit. We had a productive conversation about strengthening local economies in the Pacific Northwest, expanding trade opportunities, and Congress’ work to rein in federal spending.
This National Teacher Appreciation Day, we recognize all the educators in Central Washington, and across the country. Your dedication to students and communities stretches far beyond the classroom, and we thank you for the work you do.
Today, I had the pleasure of meeting Jeffrey Noah, the winner of the Congressional App Challenge for Washington’s Fourth District. His app, Canari, helps the agricultural industry address crop issues and protect our food supply. Congratulations Jeffrey!
Just sat down with Kennewick School Board Member Josh Miller and his family to hear about the school district’s Title IX complaint against the state of Washington on biological males competing against biological females in our community. I informed them I am currently working with the White House and Department of Justice to open a federal investigation into this unacceptable standard that continues to threaten the safety of young female athletes in Central Washington.
