We must continue expanding passenger rail, especially as skyrocketing fuel prices strain our overly car-dependent society and make life increasingly unaffordable. This week, I introduced the Amtrak Grant Flexibility Act with @repdeluzio to open the door to billions of dollars in new funding for our Amtrak system.

The story of America has been the struggle to expand access to who can participate in our government by, of and for the people. The Voting Rights Act was a watershed moment for Black political participation. Now that SCOTUS has gutted Section 2, we see Republican state legislatures in the deep South moving with deliberate speed to erase that progress. I led the @congressionalblackcaucus Special Order Hour about the impact of the Louisiana v. Callais.

The FCC serves the public interest, not a political agenda. But Trump’s FCC Chairman has sought to weaponize the agency to advance their “anti-woke” political agenda. I led 17 of my colleagues to call out this abuse of power.

For 25 years, the U.S. Forest Service’s “Roadless Rule” has protected millions of acres of national forests and grasslands from road construction and timber harvesting. It is broadly popular across the political spectrum in rural, urban and suburban areas. Yet the Trump Administration wants to eliminate the rule and open these lands to development, putting our public lands, their ecosystems, water quality, tourism and more at risk.   I joined @earthjusticeaction , lawmakers and advocates to fight back.

As gas prices skyrocket, House Republicans again refuse to bring our troops home from President Trump’s war of choice in Iran.  With no end in sight, I voted to end this madness.

When we stand together to protect our public lands, we win. The Trump admin is trying to rescind the Roadless Rule, opening the gates for clear-cut logging across millions of acres of national forest lands. We must defend this bedrock policy, which safeguards undisturbed wild lands that provide safe habitat migration corridors for wildlife. #SaveRoadless Photo credit: Matt Roth for Earthjustice

To meet exploding energy demand affordably, the U.S. must modernize its energy grid and permitting procedures. At an Energy Subcommittee hearing, I focused on the need to strike the right balance between federal and state action to meet our electricity transmission needs.

Trump promised to bring down costs for the American people. Instead, he’s driven them up with tariff wars, a war in Iran and disastrous policies that leave millions to fend for themselves. Now, he wants $1 billion for his White House ballroom vanity project — paid for off the backs of American taxpayers. I joined Steve Scully on @siriusxmprog to discuss this, the rollback of our voting rights, fallout from Republicans’ Medicaid cuts and more.

After being subjected to unacceptable conditions, Carriage House residents were kept in the dark and now have no clarity into when, whether or how to evacuate. My team and I are communicating with local, state and federal officials and the property owners to get more information and ensure these residents have a place to stay. Once residents are safely housed, we demand answers.

Louisiana v. FDA may further unravel the state of reproductive health care in our nation. I joined @freeandjustus to discuss what’s at stake for reproductive freedom if SCOTUS allows states to restrict access to mifepristone by mail.
