Part II of my trilogy “On Seeking: Field Notes from the Space in Between” is now live on Substack. Part I was testimony—my journey to Death Valley and my initiation into Seeking. Part II is what that initiation let me see: the unspeakable animus awakening in the eyes of white people across Middle America. The new world disorder, arriving in dollar store aisles before it ever becomes a tweet. Read “The Sleepwalker’s Gaze” at danielgraykontar.substack.com

My B-side single, “Fall Season,” is live on Bandcamp. The song is a meditation on the autumn of relationships—the necessary release of people from your life. But it also asks the harder question: have you ever been the one who needed to be let go? It’s real talk from both sides of the good-bye. If you’re in a season of reflection, release, or honest reckoning, I invite you to listen. Stream or download it here or visit the link in my bio: /album/the-religion-fall-season. #FallSeason #NewMusic #Bandcamp #SoulMusic #LettingGo #DanielGrayKontar

This video shows the current state of Ebo (Igbo) Landing on St. Simons Island—a sacred site of Black resistance now marked by “No Trespassing” signs. In 1803, a group of enslaved Igbo people revolted and walked into Dunbar Creek. From this tragic act of defiance, the “Flying Africans” legend was born: that they did not drown, but instead rose from the water, turned into spirits, and flew home to Africa. This story of ultimate liberation is a cornerstone of African American and Gullah-Geechee heritage. To see the ground where it began rendered inaccessible is the essence of Black historical erasure on our watch. I’ve written to the @StSimonsLandTrust , urging them to acquire this land so this sacred ground can become a place of education and honor, not silence. I have not received a return message. #EboLanding #IgboLanding #FlyingAfricans #GullahGeechee #BlackHistory #HistoricalPreservation

Yesterday morning, we learned that Washington DC would be occupied by the National Guard for reasons that remain dubious at best. That afternoon, we drove to Newfields in Indianapolis where the Alma Thomas exhibition currently lives. We reflected on what Ms. Thomas might say in this moment that her beloved DC is under siege - this woman who lived beauty through her curiosity, bravery and artistry. We decided to dedicate our day and our lives to finding the beauty in our terbulness … we send love and light to those in DC and in our world of so much hurt.
