Our eldest neighbors provide wisdom and stories that enrich our community, and it’s vital we support those who ensure their comfort and well-being. A huge thank you to Dunmore Health Care Center for inviting me to celebrate National Nursing Home Week with you all! It was an honor to share in the festivities and see firsthand the loving environment you provide.
#teacherappreciationweek — Meet Miss Winkler!
Miss Winkler recently joined the team at Valley View Intermediate School, bringing energy and enthusiasm into her third grade classroom. When she’s not taking care of her students, you can find her taking care of her 3 pugs, hanging out on the golf course, or spending time with her friends and family.
Thank you Miss Winkler for all you do!
Day #5 of #teacherappreciationweek — meet Mrs. Pevec! 🍎
Mrs. Pevec has been a proud member of the Carbondale Area School District family since 2024 as a long-term substitute teacher. After teaching fourth grade last year, she is now bringing her fun, positive energy to fifth grade, where she loves creating a welcoming classroom and making learning exciting for her students each day. Her students also know one very important fact about her — she is absolutely obsessed with Buffalo Plaid! ( you should see her classroom!)
In her spare time, she enjoys cheering on Notre Dame. She also loves all things winter, spending time with her husband, Sean, and spoiling their fur baby, Indiana.
#TeacherAppreciationWeek — Meet Mrs. Giovagnoli!
Mrs. Giovagnoli has been teaching 5th grade at Mid Valley for 24 years! She loves teaching her fifth graders, saying, “It’s the perfect combination of curiosity, growth, and personality!” When she’s not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family: her husband, Bill; daughters, Emma and Lea; son, Billy; and fur baby, Samson.
Day #4 of #teacherappreciationweek — Meet Ms. Wiercinski! 🍎
Ms. Wiercinski has been teaching at Mid Valley since 1995. She started her career at the Elementary School as the Title 1 Reading Specialist. There she spent 18 years guiding reading instruction, providing reading interventions and helping analyze curriculum data.
For the last 13 years she has been the 7th grade reading teacher, where she helps students transform novels into immersive adventures. 📚
When the last school bell rings, she enjoys going for long walks with her fur baby, Ducey. 🐾
Day 2 of spotlighting teachers throughout the district for #teacherappreciationweek! 🍎📚✏️ Meet Mr. And Mrs. Liparulo!
Mr. and Mrs. Liparulo share a passion for education at Mid Valley Elementary School, where their story first began. The two met in 2000 when Mrs. Liparulo was substituting, and their connection has grown ever since.
Mr. Liparulo, a proud 1995 Mid Valley graduate, is now in his 28th year of teaching and brings innovation and excitement to his role as the STEM teacher for students in kindergarten through 6th grade.
Mrs. Liparulo’s path has included teaching at Lackawanna Trail, founding Little Explorers Preschool, and dedicating time at home raising their three boys before returning to the classroom as a 2nd grade teacher at Mid Valley.
Together, they are committed to creating positive learning experiences—always encouraging creativity & kindness.

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all who show up day in and day out for our children. You truly are super heroes. 🦸🏻♀️ 🍎📚 To celebrate, I will be highlighting educators from schools around the district. Keep reading to learn about Miss Carter! ⬇️
Miss Carter has been teaching Kindergarten at Forest City Regional Elementary School for two years. While she loves nothing more than singing the ABC’s and counting the 123’s with her students, she also enjoys traveling, going for walks, and spending time with her family and friends. Thank you Miss Carter for helping shape the next generation of learners! ✏️📚🖍️📖 #teacherappreciationweek #ForestCityRegional #kindergarten #school #foresters education PAEducation
I was happy to spend time with students and faculty from Dunmore Jr./Sr. High School during their visit to the Capitol yesterday. Members of Teens Against Corporate Tobacco and the Tobacco Resistance Unit (TRU) of the American Lung Association had the chance to spend a few minutes with my dear friend and Madam Speaker, Rep. Joanna McClinton — a special moment during an impactful day of learning and engagement.
🌧️Due to Saturday's rainy forecast, our free document shredding event will be rescheduled to Saturday May 30th, from 10-noon. Thanks for your understanding!
Earlier this week in Harrisburg, I attended the annual Civic Commemoration of the Holocaust, which is always a solemn and emotional event. As it was said, "the Holocaust teaches us that silence in the face of evil is not an option. That lesson is as relevant today as it ever has been.”
Stopping the reckless nature of the data center goldrush targeting our valley is a battle that must be fought on multiple fronts. While you continued to make your objections heard at local council meetings this week, I was in Harrisburg fighting for and passing more legislation to confront these corporations. This fight will and must continue.
