For #NationalNursesWeek, I was honored to visit @silvercrosshospital and tour the only Level 3 NICU in Will County. One week of honoring nurses is not enough, and I want to express my gratitude for the countless lives these nurses have touched across the region.

Today we celebrate #IL01’s bio, step, foster, adoptive, godmothers, grandmas, aunties, and all who mother with intention. But celebration means nothing if we ignore the truth: too many mothers are being failed by systems that should protect them. Mothers deserve more than survival — they deserve power, autonomy, safety, paid leave, living wages, care support, and real health equity. I’m honoring and fighting for mothers not just today, but every day.

It was an honor to be present for the groundbreaking of the @CTA Red Line Extension. Generations of organizers from IL-01 and across the Far South Side fought for transit equity, and their persistence in the face of adversity has brought the Red Line Extension into reality. So today we celebrate the promise of connection: connecting people to opportunities, connecting neighborhoods, and most of all, connecting people to each other.

In the dead of night, Republicans pushed the 2026 Farm Bill which plants seeds of inequality and calls it reform. Congress had the opportunity to undo the immense damage that has been done to the SNAP program by H.R. 1, but instead, Republicans decided to double down on their cruel agenda that vilifies SNAP recipients. At a time of an affordability crisis for producers and consumers, Republicans have no meaningful plan to support American farmers or struggling families. I voted NO on this sham Farm Bill and will continue to fight for robust funding, meaningful policies, and real support for all Americans

Let’s be clear: Louisiana v. Callais isn’t about maps. It’s about silencing African American and Minority voices. Democrats are not letting that slide.

This Earth Day, I reflect on environmental justice. I recently joined Rails to Trails and SEJ for their 35th-anniversary bike tour and advocating for transportation equity and increased investment in a healthy environment for our communities. From the @thisisuic campus to the Lakefront, we discussed why every neighborhood in Illinois' 1st District deserves safe, accessible green spaces.

On Jackie Robinson Day, we celebrate the ballplayer, the soldier, the trailblazer, and the patriot who broke the color barrier and forced this nation to confront its conscience. Nearly 8 decades later, we see this administration erasing Jackie Robinson's legacy in the name of ending DEI. We must continue to tell the full story of America, not a sanitized story, to give the next generation the courage to keep pushing forward. #JackieRobinson
