"After-Life" (2016–2026, crystal, variable dimensions) consists of a variable number of crystal sculptures that take the form of candied fruit — a traditional decoration found in Sicilian confectionery. 🍊
Candying, a method of preserving vegetal matter, becomes here a way to prolong what is inherently transient. Fruit, like flowers, has long been central to the genre of still life; however they now appear as entities from an “after-life” —like ghost-like luminous presences.

Acting as an evocation of a landscape, “Il cacciatore di polvere + Afterlife” (2026, soil, variable dimensions) transforms a portion of the exhibition space into an inaccessible, shifting territory.
Composed of soils gathered from both near and distant places, the work adapts itself to the architecture of the place that host it, defining an area from which the human presence is excluded. This boundary becomes both physical and conceptual: a threshold between the desire to possess nature and the awareness of its impossibility.
The use of volcanic sand reflects a personal connection of Piangiamore to Etna — a presence at once generative and destructive, magnetic and restless.

Scattered with falling stars and feathers, the series “Qualche uccello si perde nel cielo (Some Bird Gets Lost in the Sky)” brings together two seemingly incompatible conditions: the stars that remain unseen by day and the birds that disappear by night.
In the process-based nature of Alessandro Piangiamore’s practice — where the final outcome often exceeds the artist’s control — the sky becomes substance rather than colour, and the paper more than a support, giving rise to images that are elusive and unrepeatable.
