@scienceclubforgirls celebrated its Catalyst Awards last week, recognizing the incredible impact of expanding #STEM opportunities for girls and gender-expansive youth. Their work is so important in helping young people see themselves as future scientists, engineers, innovators, and leaders through hands-on learning opportunities, mentorship, leadership development, and out-of-school STEM programming that engages girls, teens, and young adults at every stage. A recent longitudinal study found that 99% of Science Club for Girls alumni attended college and 63% pursued STEM majors — rising to 76% when STEM-adjacent fields like Economics and Psychology are included. These outcomes reflect the power of sustained mentorship and meaningful investment in young people. I am proud to have secured $100,000 annually for Science Club for Girls in the state budget over the past two years, including an FY26 earmark after the organization experienced substantial cuts in foundation funding. Supporting programs like this is an investment in equity, opportunity, and the next generation of leaders in STEM. Congratulations as well to this year’s honorees, two outstanding Cambridge women whose leadership and advocacy have made a lasting impact on both our community and the Commonwealth. Congratulations Dr. Sally Kornbluth and Secretary Yvonne Hao for all they continue to do in the service of Massachusetts #education #steam #access #cambridgema
