Reni Lane

TLDR: I made a song with Papooz and they put it on their super fun new collaborative album! Story time: I love making music with friends. I met Papooz in 2018 when I was in Paris modeling for @balenciaga and playing early shows with @oraclesisters . They always seemed to be at all the fun places - where never-ending jam sessions went hand in hand with one too many nightcaps. Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of being in their orbit - sharing musical discoveries, festival stages, sold-out shows, and of course, many, many laughs. One of the things I admire most about them is their ability to shine with warmth and humor, even when things are messy or uncertain-and somehow bottle that sunshine into their music. It’s impossible not to love them for it. And now there’s a little piece of that friendship captured on tape. “I Don’t Feel The Same” is about refusing to succumb to negativity-maybe even to an absurd degree. (It might just be the anti-nihilist anthem we need right now.) Give it a listen and let me know what you think… and thank you Papooz for making this American in Paris’s dreams come true.

The title ‘Don’t Overthink It’ gave us all the direction we needed…. Jamming the chorus in @juliajohansen89 ’s garage, @celia.marie.cheri and I knew the hook needed to be simple and direct. A week later when she came back with lyrics, we streamlined it even more. In an industrial building on the edge of Manchester, me and @cstocky55 recorded the drums with 2 mics, guitar & bass straight to DI, and everything one to two takes max with no edits. This “demo” was finished in a few hours and is what you can now stream online. When we couldn’t find a suitable concept, much less a time for us to get together and shoot the music video, we had the idea to shoot it like a FaceTime call where we’re all in different places, which is exactly what was happening in real life. We needed a cool single cover, then remembered that we already had shot some amazing Polaroids for @lachattedefrancoise on the first day me, @marineneuilly , and Celia all hung out together. Sometimes less is more. ‘Don’t Overthink It’ is 7 days old and I (madame Reni Lane) couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. TLDR: We’ve been featured in @vogueitalia ! Under normal circumstances, no one in their right mind would invite a publication to photograph them in their home one month post-partum (much less Italian Vogue)! But we were not afraid, and having a dear friend behind the camera made it easy… Thank you @vogueitalia for showcasing our life’s project to turn Chateau de la Ferté into a cultural hub. We will forever treasure these images capturing such a sweet moment in our life with our new little treasure. Hard launch: musician mom-life. I’ve been pretty quiet this past year. I disappeared partly because I could, and partly because I was creating the wildest thing I’d ever tried. It’s a luxury to not feel like I have to be online for my work — but having a baby, and seeing all the love for him (even before he arrived!) made me realize there’s more I want to share — creatively and otherwise.
