One year in the Grand Duchy! All things considered, it’s been pretty great thanks to new friends, tons of walks, and a few adventures beyond the Lux border. And the crémant, lots and lots of crémant.
Saint Bread is opening on Tuesday! I couldn’t be prouder of yasuaki for making his dream come true in this beautiful space that’s filled with special people who are ready to welcome you, feed you delicious food, and build community. If you are in Seattle, make your way to Portage Bay, and tell your friends too! Can’t wait to see you there. ❤️
Many of you have kindly reached out in recent days and weeks to ask how yasu is doing with the restaurant industry in its current state of crisis. It won't surprise you to know that he is devastated and disillusioned for his team since The London Plane had to make the difficult decision to close the shop. And, perhaps even more, he's grieving for his restaurant family around the world who are experiencing similar fear, panic and despair. Even for the most vibrant and busy restaurants in the (once) most vibrant and busy cities, recovering from this feels unimaginable. In the midst of this, he's working harder than ever, and getting creative about helping others and sharing hospitality (his superpower). In that spirit, he and his colleagues at The London Plane have transformed the restaurant into a production kitchen that is currently serving 1,600 FREE meals a day to employees at UW, Harborview and Children’s hospitals in Seattle. This endeavor is being fully funded by the kindness of friends and strangers through gofundme. So whether you can send only good vibes or a couple of dollars to help the people on the front lines of this pandemic, I'll be forever grateful. Please take care of yourselves. ❤️
