Step into the studio with Remith Ramesh. 🎭
Curious about what a session of ‘The Imaginative Body’ actually looks like? Beyond learning techniques, this 4-day workshop presents a fluid dialogue between ancient practice and contemporary physicality. Here is a glimpse of the journey:
Understanding the Neutral Body
Explore basic movements of Kutiyattam and understand how a neutral body functions in performance.
Character Exploration
Investigate character through Kutiyattam principles and focus on internalising form rather than external imitation.
The Performative Body
Engage the imaginative and creative space of Kutiyattam alongside Michael Chekhov’s approach to develop a responsive and performative physicality.
Text in Contemporary Context
Work with text using transitive verbs to embody action and intention, and translate classical principles into contemporary performance practice.

The practice focuses on internalising classical principles and allowing them to emerge through an imaginative, responsive body—bridging tradition and contemporary expression. Designed for actors, dancers, and theatre practitioners, the workshop explores the relationship between the personal body, the actor’s body, and the character body through physical exercises and performance explorations.
Actors, dancers, theatre practitioners, and movement enthusiasts with an interest in embodied performance practices are welcome.
