THE NEW AGENDA ISSUE
We were only granted less than three hours to capture
@kira_balinger and the cast of upcoming suspense thriller, #TheSecretsofHotel88 in their fighting form, just before they roll up their sleeves and present what’s coming after their berth in the canonical reality television show Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition about a year ago, and that’s all the time we need to see—in all the rushed chaos—the kind of imprint each of these young celebrities—now, all full-fledged actors—has left and has been carving in entertainment, and in turn, Philippine culture.
For generations, PBB has stood as a television fixture—nurturing star hopefuls for years on end and becoming an inviting easy pass to let us all in on the private lives of strangers, for better or for worse, that inevitably became a passing fancy. Somehow, there’s a whiff of newness brought by the unlikely coming together of giants in last year’s inaugural edition, and the evolved sensibilities of viewers that each character proved to be a reflection of who we are now as people—that their dreams, their setbacks, and even their upcoming pursuits, became latched on ours.
Following a box-office Holiday hit that served as litmus test to their acting capabilities and ticket pull then comes a new maze to solve. “The Secrets of Hotel 88” beckons viewers into a shadowy world of hidden truths. But more than the package where this next act comes in, the show promises to lift the lid on who each of these young powerhouses has become, after their thrust into public consciousness and the fan frenzy, and leads us all to chart their journey on who they are poised to become, long after the groundwork has been laid down and their trajectories have been carefully mapped out.
