Street Geek Magazine 01 Launch Party Around 3 years ago, I was frustrated trynna find a salary job in any creative field: marketing, fashion, graphic design, writing - anything. I aint get shit. No interviews, emails back, nothing. But I always believed in myself to the fullest. I always knew my potential, my capabilities, and my value as not just a creative but as a person. So I said FUCK IT. I gave up trying to find a comfortable salary job. And I was just tired of working for other people. Feeling disposable at any moment, just like a cog in a machine. A pawn. I made up my mind to really just do my own thing and put all of my energy into it and to mainly work for myself. We are here now! Moved to New York in 2019, a month after graduating college — about 7 years ago now — to work in the fashion industry. The vision has slightly changed but the dream has always been the same: To be apart of NYC culture. To add to the culture. I’ve always been heavily influenced by NYC. From hip-hop, to L3NF, to streetwear, DTNY, Larry Clark and Kids. There’s so much media, art, and facets of the people here that I love. That I gravitate to. I love people. I love culture. I love learning and being apart/exposed to different groups of people and their traditions. Their way of living. How they see the world. Aint no place as culturally dense as this city. And I just want others like me — ppl passionate bout what they do, no matter the circumstance — to be heard. If you got something to say, say it. Whether thru music, art, words, fashion, whatever medium. Never stop creating, never settle, don’t get discouraged, and don’t feel the pressure to conform or compromise your voice to please corporations, elites, ppl out of touch, whatever df. Keep struggling. Keep chasing. Keep the community strong. Appreciate everybody that popped out. All my friends, all my homies, my peers, the community. Love y’all! Can’t express it enough. Hope yall hadda good time. And thanks to Homerun & the homie @diegocruzfern for making a good night possible. FOR THE CULTURE.

@streetgeekmagazine x @frank151 Creative Chronicles: Inside the Mind of a Street Geek: How One Brooklyn Creative Is Reviving Culture and Redefining Cool In this series, Frank 151 invites you on a captivating journey around the globe, providing a unique glimpse into the narratives and imaginative landscapes of individuals who are driving creativity to new heights worldwide. In the heart of Brooklyn, where the echoes of subway trains blend with the pulse of underground art and streetwear, a new voice is cutting through the noise. That voice belongs to the founder of Street Geek Magazine Jerrell Funtila AKA: @rellyluv — a self-made creative who’s turning DIY hustle and cultural curiosity into one of the most authentic new media platforms to come out of New York in recent years. Born out of frustration, passion, and a relentless urge to create, Street Geek started as a small Instagram page reselling curated vintage under the name RIP Studio 54, a nod to the iconic NYC nightclub. Today, it’s evolved into a hybrid digital zine and cultural archive — a home for the “culture nerds with street cred.” With one hand flipping through old copies of The Source and Vice, and the other scrolling through a saturated algorithm, the founder is carving out a lane for those who still believe in storytelling, substance, and staying true to your ethos. We sat down to talk about the evolution of Street Geek, the struggle of building something real in a digital world, and why the streets and the geeks might just be the same people after all. #Frank151 #streetgeekmagazine #CreativeChronicles #streetculture#NYC

YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY THE SHIT YOU PUT ON. Excerpts from my 4 page essay (p55 - 58) challenging how fashion affects identity. As somebody that has loved fashion pretty much all my life — recently I have grown to view it thru a different lens and have become “jaded” to say the least. Basically I just stopped giving a fuck about being fly all the time. I no longer feel the need to put that shit on because I feel like I just have so much more to offer and to say than just looking cool or unique. Thru my own personal experience living in NYC and working in the fashion industry, particularly somewhat in the styling world — there are some observations that have made me rethink my “why” for loving fashion. And in doing so, I have realized that I really just love clothes but all that other stuff that comes with them… not so much. I’m at heart anti-fashion. I love styling because you can tell stories thru clothes, you can communicate and express emotions and messages thru how you dress — But in today’s culture that very same thing is being exploited. HAPPY NEW YORK FASHION WEAK. *** READ THE FULL ESSAY ONLY IN PRINT ISSUE 01 RELEASING SOON *** WITH REFERENCES TO MINA LE @gremlita and SLC PUNK

STREETGEEK MAGAZINE’S FAVORITE ALBUMS OF 2025 This year has been another insane year for music. Did it top 2024 though? Shit don’t think we can call it but it was another year filled with endless amount of drops for every niche lil genre of this era. Here is a list that is grounded for the Street Geeks. Some shit that people can really lock in with thats not too music nerdy, not too underground or too cool. We got a good mix that sums this year up culturally. Some major star power came thru again with Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Sabrina Carpenter and Addison Rae. A full Hip-Hop revival era from the 90s greats backed by Nas by way of Ghostface Killah, Big L & Slick Rick. Blend this w the current backpackers of Earl, Navy Blue, Mike, Griselda, Freddie Gibbs. The new gen of trap shit like EsDeeKid, Glokk40spaz, Molly Santana. Ravers still mf rolling & dancing rn cause of Frost Children, The Hellp, Machine Girl, FKA Twigs, and dozens of underground DnB bangers. The “rock” scene to keep it general, has been on the rise & the world might finally have their next big band to “bring rock back” with Turnstile. Then of course the windmill scene is dropping hella shit. Shoutout Squid, Viagra Boys, Maruja, and the bands pushing that sound forward. Some good ole alt pop/r&b for the shawties. Lily Allen, Oklou, Pinkpantheress, Mariah the Scientist, Laufey, Japanese Breakfast. Iykyk. Man point is helllla shit came out. Too fucking much. Humans werent meant to just endlessly consume this amount of music so thats why our founder @rellyluv curated his favorite 50 out of the 130+ albums he tuned into this year. All based off a number of shit that doesnt matter frfr bc it’s personal. The list concluded at the beginning of Dec to try and avoid recency biased as much as possible. But bash the shit if you want we dont give a fuck! Let us know ya fav AOTY!
