From hands to home.
There’s always a sort of intimate journey that comes with the arrival and departure of a new piece. First, the initial meeting with the maker, then the welcoming of his works to the gallery, and finally – a sort of beautiful mourning follows – the bittersweet send-off to its new, forever home.

There’s a certain stillness to the West Coast – a place that grabs hold, gently tugging for your return. For Arend Louw, it’s a place of solitude and self, where he works from his own photographic references to capture scenes of everyday life that feel both deeply personal and universally familiar. Working in oil, a medium of patience, each painting unfolds with intent: not simply to be seen, but to hold the emotion of a moment, just as it was experienced.

In celebration of this month’s Last Thursday, we’re activating the city of Paarl (and our gallery) with the colour that symbolizes melancholy, sky, openness, and the deep. We’ll also be showcasing an exhibition showcasing the combined works of two of our most recent artists – Izette Roos and Arend Louw.
Pop into the gallery for a drink and explore a curated, blue-hued body of work. Expect good wine, good conversation and a good, good time.

Izette Roos is, paired with a three-fold background in sculpture, photography and ceramics, a sculptor in mixed media. Her work plays on ordinary cultural signifiers, imitating a cultural artefact sorts.
Roos’s body of work explores the ‘everyday’ and the ‘mundane’ with the use of graphic images, and - to simplify the subject matter - vivid cartoonlike colouring.

95 years of ‘Taal’
This week we turned one — and our friends at Taalgenoot, verteenwoordigend van die ATKV, a remarkable 95. Wat ’n voorreg om saam te vier: die taal, die mense, die kos, die kunste, en die kreatiewe geeste that shape it all.
