These days sharing songs about my own personal heartbreak on the internet just feels so trite and self-involved. The fear of saying or doing the wrong thing, of appearing not to care, of perpetuating “business as usual” is crippling. But the fear of letting an authoritarian government stop me from making art with my friends is greater.
It might not be much, but music is the best way I know of to connect with the people around me, and right now I desperately need to connect with the people around me.
I know that some of you, just like me, are balancing the tragedy that is currently occurring in our country with your own personal tragedies. Maybe some of you, like me, recognize that our personal tragedies are bound up in the systems that are designed to keep us stuck. Maybe I’m rambling.
All I know is that it’s been a real struggle, but I’m trying so hard to find the light in the world right now.
