“Shell See You Now” , 2026, acrylic, paper, colored pencil, ceramic, glaze on wood panel, 72.75 x 33.5 Is the response to a greatest hits collection of questions I’ve been asked since here: “Where are you from?” “What’s it like?..Do you have internet there? Do you have bathrooms… inside the house?” To which I’ve settled in the following mythical response : “Actually, we’re born out of a shell, get assigned a plantain tree at birth, and spend the next eighteen years nurturing it because that tree is the retirement plan. No 401k, just plantains. You should really visit sometime!. =============== Currently on view @powerhouse_arts x @regularnormalnyc ================ . . . . . . . . #paintings #creative #paint #abstract #AriaAlmanzar

Capicúa por arriba, Candela por Abajo, 2026, Sourced cooking pot, dominoes & resin, 15 in D x 8 You can play dominoes without food, and eat without playing dominoes, but why would you? The two are so deeply woven into Dominican social life that one almost doesn’t make sense without the other. If rice and beans are the foundation of the plate, a game of dominoes is the foundation of the gathering. Currently on view at @powerhouse_arts x @regularnormalnyc Buen provecho y capicúa! ================ . . . . . . . . #painting #creative # #carribeanart #sculpture

@regularnormalnyc presents: “2 lbs” a two-person booth for CONDUCTOR art fair inaugural edition at @powerhouse_arts from April 30 to May 3 featuring new works by artists ARIA ALMANZAR & PEDRO TRONCOSO Come visit us and all our other fellow exhibitors this week! “2 Lbs” reflects a cultural weight, not just physical. Daily Dominican customs—colmado as a social hub, habit of habichuelas, collective sancocho prep, and mangú comfort—show two pounds in domestic life and tradition. The familiar turns formal, everyday becomes historical. Aria Almanzar and Pedro Troncoso explore this inheritance from different yet connected views. Their work analyzes the social and symbolic meaning of daily routines—how a dish is more than nourishment, serving as an argument, memory, and testament to presence. The exhibition neither mourns nor solely celebrates these customs; it examines them, questioning what is meant by “two pounds” and those who have historically understood the answer. “2 lbs” uses gestures with objects and materials to show that the domestic space isn’t just private—it’s essential for culture’s survival, negotiated gradually. 📷 @magbaez

“2 LBS” In 1921, the world’s sugar price sank to just two dollars a pound, bringing an end to the era of prosperity known as the danza de los millones. The lush cane fields of Hispaniola, which had once fueled great fortunes during the First World War, had now become the land of foreign corporations. Dominican families who had worked hard and dreamed big on that land found themselves burdened with debt. Two pounds — a simple unit of weight, yet also a symbol of ruin. However, in Dominican life, two pounds means so much more. It’s the weight of rice carried home from the colmado on a Friday evening. It’s the handful of habichuelas soaking overnight, the plantains wrapped in cloth for Sunday’s sancocho, the salami ready for the morning’s mangú. It’s what a grandmother measures—not on a scale, but in the cup of her palm—knowledge passed on through touch and tradition, never written down. The works of Pedro Troncoso and Aria Almanzar live within these two meanings — the weight that’s been lost and the weight that persists. They ask us what survives a century of hardship when it’s carried in the body, in the kitchen, in the song, and in a game of dominoes. Jairo Serna’s “It Snows, It Rains, It Shines” solo exhibition in collaboration with @longstoryshort.nyc is closing this Sunday, April 27th. If you haven’t visit yet this is the best week (and weather) to do so. With an innovative approach to acrylic paint and a mosaic-like process, Jairo Serna’s current work merges figuration with working-class urban environments to explore themes of intimacy, alienation, and public life in New York City. The artist cuts, layers, scrapes, and gouges the mosaicked surfaces of his paintings to evoke a strong tactile response in viewers. His paintings feature architectural elements typical of residential communities, incorporating objects and structures designed to protect, separate, and surveil, such as streetlights, fences, windows, doorbells, and more. The gallery is located at: 52 Henry Street and it’s open Wednesdays thru Sundays, from 12pm to 6pm. Photos courtesy of @longstoryshort.nyc / artist 🎨🖼️🎨🖼️👨🏽‍🎨
