💡 Paterson is full of visionaries. Sometimes, all they need is the opportunity.
From Afro-Latin dance and photography to music, sewing, and entrepreneurship, NJCDC’s latest minigrants cohort transformed local passions into real community change.
Three rounds in, thanks to generous funding from @regionalfound , resident leadership is not just thriving — it’s reshaping neighborhoods.
See how this spring’s showcase celebrated the growing movement.

There are so many stories about Kensington that focus only on the crisis.
The truth is, the story of Kensington is complex, and often the narrative presented publicly lacks both nuance and any kind of joy.
@impactservices opened its doors to us, and we saw the humanity.
🛝We saw it in the revitalization of Hope Park and the community events that draw neighbors together.
🎨We saw it in art like @busta.art and Leon Rainbow’s (@aerosoleon ), Raising the Next Legacy piece completed in partnership with Impact’s BRAKE program.
🏠 We saw it in home repairs. Cleaner streets. Refreshed business facades.
Change is constant and gradual. We’re grateful to Impact Services and their many partners for their commitment to community, to changing the narrative, one storefront, one block, one park, and one household at a time.
We invite you to tap the link in our bio to go beyond the headlines and get curious about the heart (and truth) of Kensington.

🗣️To the shock of no one, communities already know what they need.
Communities like Strawberry Mansion that have long experienced disinvestment are reclaiming their neighborhood and shaping a vision
for the future on their own terms.
Led by @strawberrymansioncdc , this neighborhood plan reflects the
priorities, hopes, and lived experiences of residents working toward a
stronger future for their community.
For anyone unfamiliar, Strawberry Mansion is a historic North Philadelphia neighborhood with generations of community leadership,
culture, and resilience.
This plan focuses on preserving what residents love while creating opportunities for future generations to thrive.

Our grantee partners are the heartbeat of this work and moments like this remind us why.
#flashback to our site visit with @sowe_lancaster 🤝 🏡
Through home repairs and housing rehab, they’re making sure revitalization doesn’t come at the cost of displacement. Instead, they are creating pathways for neighbors to stay, build wealth, and shape their own community’s future.
We are sure you will love their work and mission as much as we do. Tap the link in our bio and learn more about what they’re building.

💇 Turning passion into skill—and skill into opportunity!
Over the past several weeks, Paterson residents have been participating in Entrepreneurship: Empowerment Through Hair Care, a hands-on class where they’ve been building their hair-cutting and styling skills while learning the basics of entrepreneurship.
Led by Instructor Jessica Fuentes, participants are building confidence, creativity, and real-world skills that can open doors to future opportunities—or simply support their own self-care.
This program is made possible thanks to the support of the @regionalfound through the Neighborhood Activities Fund (NAF) Mini-Grant Program. 💙

They came in as beginners…
they left as SEWERS.
Part 2 of our NJCDC @njcdc collab with Gabby @abidedesignsllc
From learning the machine → to cutting → pinning → sewing… they did ALL of it.
And Yes… in ONE morning session!
Now they’re going home ready to actually use their machines.
And that’s the goal and why I do this 🫶

Music, culture, and creativity all begin here. 🎶
Our youngest Paterson learners are finding their rhythm and creativity, exploring Andean flute and guitar with instructor @lito_ramos_woodwind , inspired by his Peruvian roots.
With support from the Regional Foundation, NJCDC continues to offer free classes to the Paterson community. Neighborhood Help Center

Last weeks KCT featuring Kevin Dow (@Kevindow246@regionalfound ) was enlightening. In 2008, Kevin was appointed by Mayor Nutter to a dual role as the Senior Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Commerce Department for the City of Philadelphia and led a team dedicated to coordinating strategies and business-friendly tactics to attract and retain both small businesses and major corporations in Philadelphia.
