Have you tuned in to the thought provoking conversation I had with @thejaniemac a co-founder of @refugeecommunitykitchen yet? I always think introspection is something that is anaemic in today’s ultra fast world - and this conversation delved into so many necessary topics where I am still taking stock.
Janie unravelled her vital approach when it comes to displacement, the immense challenges in fundraising for nonprofits and the intricate web of need in communities, where impact isn’t always about metrics for if we judge everything by metrics, we risk missing those who need us most. Sometimes the most important work is the hardest to count and it all really comes down to being there for those who’ve fallen through the cracks.
Tune in 🎧for this and oh so much more as we explore compassion and action in an overwhelmed world - link in bio 👆🏼

Two weeks today! I’m putting on a gig with @peterthornton at @muswellhillbillybrewers taproom to raise money for @refugeecommunitykitchen . They are currently fundraising for a new van for their food distribution in Calais. 🚐
Tickets by donation, link in my bio or via the QR code. Expect folk/jazz/funk tunes, doors from 7, music from 7:30. Great beer (other drinks available too) and fun tunes for an extremely important cause. Space is limited so please book in advance so we can save a space for you! 🎻 🎸
Big thank you to Muswell Hillbilly Brewers, they are local legends for letting us use their taproom venue 💚
Join me for a stirring and compassion-fuelled episode as I sat down with the remarkable Janie Mac, one of the co-founder’s of Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK). From the heart of the Midlands to the frontlines in Calais, Janie shares her journey as an activist, her experiences helping displaced people, and the story of how the simple act of cooking for others blossomed into an international movement.
This episode is as much a call to action as it is a testament to the radical change that starts when ordinary people come together for a cause. Tune in 🎧 for unsparing honesty, practical wisdom, and the reminder that, sometimes, offering a nourishing meal is the first spark of hope.
This episode will inspire you, challenge your assumptions, and perhaps even move you to action. Want to discover what keeps Janie and her colleagues going in the face of adversity—and how you can help?

🌱We have been seeing an increasing need for food support in Dunkirk, with more families and young children arriving.
🌱RCK has been able to provide us with over 800 portions of hot, nutritious meals, and today we were especially grateful for this support. The meals come in bento-style boxes, making them easy to transport and distribute quickly—something that really helps when capacity is stretched.
🌱Alongside this, we continue to support Bethlehem with weekly food bag distributions. However, both teams are currently experiencing a shortage of volunteers, which makes it more challenging to keep everything running smoothly.
🌱It was a busy day today, with many women and children needing assistance. We truly value the collaboration we’ve built over the past few years—it makes a real difference.
🌱That said, we urgently need more volunteers for May and June to ensure we can continue providing these essential services, both independently and alongside our partner organisations.
🌱If you’re able to help, please get in touch 🌱. #collaborations #food #volunteersneeded #refugees #workingtogether
