We’ll run a few taster classes to give you a feel for our teaching style and class differences. Plus we’ll have some social dancing! Without traditional bachata there is no bachata sensual, bachata influence, bachazouk, ConRi style etc Working on your traditional bachata alongside the other styles you enjoy dancing will only help to improve the richness of your dances. It will give you more tools to use, more understanding of the music structure and the way the ground is used to create different footwork and hip movement. Gemma has just returned from Sydney with a 🥇 plus is a certified traditional bachata instructor- so you’re in great hands! An important message as we welcome many new people to our community. Entering into a partner dance scene can feel exciting and fun but also intimidating and uncertain for some. We share closer proximity to people we dance with than what we typically do in our day to day lives and sometimes that can mean lines are blurry. So, as we nurture the community growth and welcome new people, we thought it was a good time to remind everyone that creating a safe community is the number 1 priority. If you feel like your safety or wellbeing is being put at risk by another person at our events- we implore you to speak with us. You will be listened to. You will be taken seriously. And we will take action to ensure we protect you and our community from unwanted behaviour. Let’s protect our community together. Share this so everyone understands their role.

✨ We are keeping Perth on the National Podium for another year! ✨ To have our Principal Instructor and a student place in competitions that were judged on social dancing, and dancing real bachata is a testament to the work we put in behind the scenes. We’re so proud to be sharing this moment with not only one of our students, but also a close friend. Shilpa, watching you shine and stay kind to yourself was such a good reminder that competitions don’t need to come with pressure and stress. There is an option where we choose to enjoy the moment and just be ourselves. Congratulations ladies. And thank you for proudly representing Refinery Dance 💜

We’re still celebrating our wins from the weekend, but one of the moments we can’t look past is this. Laura and Shilpa, it takes courage to enter a competition. Especially in a city where you don’t know anyone- but you both did so well at staying true to yourselves. Often coming to these events from Perth can be nerve wracking and intimidating - but you both proved that our distance isn’t holding us back. Alvin, thank you for everything. Not only over the last 6+ months, but for caring enough to make that suggestion before we even knew each other. You put 100% into everything and I’m so grateful to teach and train alongside you. Even if you do have a weird talent for choosing demo songs I’ve never heard 😂 And of course, a huge thank you to the amazing @the_wooniverse and @illary_salute for all the knowledge you shared that set us both up for where we are now. I think back to those sessions every time I’m teaching a private lesson of my own 🫶
