Hi everyone, as some of you know, my beautiful fiancée Niamh passed away suddenly in 2020 due to unknown acute pancreatitis. I’m running the @londonmarathon in her memory, fundraising for @animalfreeresearchuk , a cause she was incredibly passionate about. Niamh was an extraordinary person. She was training to become a children’s nurse, worked as a carer for profoundly disabled children, and lived her life with an incredible sense of compassion - not just for people, but for animals too. A dedicated vegan, she strongly opposed animal testing and believed in creating a kinder world for all living beings. She made it her mission to rescue and adopt as many rats as she could, and our home became a sanctuary for these often-misunderstood little souls. We were both heartbroken by the continued use of animals in testing and the suffering they endure. Niamh truly made the world a better place for both people and animals, and it feels deeply important to continue making a difference in her name. While I’ve completed other marathons and half marathons in her memory, this one is huge. It is a fantastic opportunity to honour her legacy while also supporting my own mental health, giving me structure, purpose, and a way to keep moving forward without her by my side. Any shares/donations are extremely appreciated. I am also happy sending across the poster file if anyone is interested in printing it out and putting up in workplaces, community notice boards etc. Thank you in advance. 💜 Link in bio or /page/drewjay23

Thank you to everyone who signed my petition urging the government to introduce a properly funded National Line Recycling Scheme. Although we didn't secure enough signatures, there is still an opportunity to have this discussed in the House of Commons which is very exciting indeed! On 8 September, Elliot Colburn MP is leading a Westminster Hall debate on reducing plastic waste. To inform his debate, he wants to hear our ideas and suggestions. This is our opportunity to demand urgent action to protect the environment and wildlife from discarded fishing gear. I would be most grateful if you can mention the petition that has been running, thank you. 👉 link in bio. #recycledmaterials #saveourseas

Another brief beach clean this evening. Happy to report I didn't find much litter however did find quite a few bottle tops! Was there someone in Brighton who could reuse these? Another amazing piece 🎨: @thepostman_art and @leavenotracebrighton #brightonbeachboxes #beachclean

Time is running out to sign the petition - we have until the 10th August. 😬 We need the government to tackle the urgent issue of discarded fishing gear that harms our environment and wildlife. I want the government to ensure educational materials explaining line recycling is provided whenever someone buys an EA fishing license but also to invest in recycling bins nationwide. The @anglersnlrs are having such a positive impact so the aim is to get all MPs to back and support this in their local area.♻️ The petition link can be found in my bio or you can copy this URL: /petitions/573619 #fishingline #fishinguk

The number of species affected by either entanglement or ingestion of plastic debris has doubled since 1997, from 267 to 557 species (@wwf , 2020) We have 45 days left on our petition to introduce a national fishing line recycling scheme. Help us reach our target, sign the petition in my bio and share! Together we can make a big difference! #saveourseas #saveouroceans

I started this campaign after rescuing a duck caught in discarded fishing line. Every time I visited the local park, I found more line, some with hooks still attached. All of this was collected in only 3 months. This is why I am pushing for change. This #worldenvironmentday help make a difference. Sign the petition calling on the government to take action against discarded fishing line. Click the link in my bio for more information. #ReelChange #take3forthesea

Just back from a spontaneous #beachclean. #Brighton beach was absolutely trashed, so sad to see. Picked loads up and made multiple trips to the recycling bins but hardly even made a dent. Weirdest find: half a flip flop (no idea where the other half was!) absolutely covered in tomato ketchup 🤔

Thank you to everyone who has signed and shared the petition so far. We are currently 19% of the way towards the goal of 10,000 signatures by August 10th. Let's keep the momentum going. We need urgent change and together we can make a kinder future.❤️ Add your name to the petition calling on the government to introduce a nationwide fishing line recycling scheme. Sharing @oneglobalocean 's amazing project helping to tackle the urgent issue of plastic in our oceans. Have a read below! 🌊 🌊 🌊 The Mersey Mile! It is estimated that between 1.1 and 2.4 million tons of plastic are transported into the ocean from rivers every year worldwide. Believe it or not, one of these rivers is right on our doorstep in the UK which is the River Mersey. It is hard to believe but the River Mersey is proportionally more polluted than the great Pacific garbage patch. If you didn't already know what that was, the Great Pacific garbage patch is a collection of marine debris in the North Pacific Ocean which covers an area of 1.6 million kilometers. Once I have managed to complete the trash tow!!! (5 miles in nearly) my plan is to swim a mile in the Mersey, which will be the first of thirteen swims in the Uk's most polluted rivers. All in aid of raising money with @empowerplastic to remove 66,000kg of ocean plastic! (Link in bio) More to be revealed soon! . @stewmackellarphoto 📸 . . . . . . #rivermersey #swimming #polluted #riverpollution #pollutedriver #plasticrivers #channelswim #riverthames #riverlea #rivertrent #riverirwell #riverwye #riverconwy #riverderwent #riverclyde #oceanplastics #litterpicking #beachcleanup #surfersagainstsewage #rivers #swimforchange #sewage #pollutedwaterways #saveourseas #timeforchange #plasticocean #changingtides #keepswimming #oceanlover
