Surprise! Patmos, music for the apocalypse, the 5th Reduction Plan LP, is out today. It’s been a long time coming and I’m so glad to finally share it with the world. It’s an album about complicity, anxiety, and shame in the face of a world tearing itself apart at the seams.
This record was written and recorded during, and shortly after, covid lockdown, and was driven by the inescapable feeling that we were in the endtimes. I was also feeling an intense amount of climate anxiety while writing it and a deep frustration with both a personal and broader complicity in destroying our world. Obviously, things have not gotten better, and that complicity now extends to an ever-worsening climate crisis as well as a state-funded genocide that we are all contributing to against our will. These songs represent that broader anger and vitriol, but also the internal shame and guilt wrapped up in the reality that I am, as we all are, personally contributing to this.
On a more positive note, I could not be prouder of how these songs turned out. We had a lot of fun making it, and to me, this is the official document of what I always wanted Reduction Plan to be as a project. This is really the first Reduction Plan release that has felt like a group effort, and there are a lot of wonderful people to thank:
- Studio wizard
@seffffffy for bringing the vision to life
- Collaborator, co-writer, brother
@storyontheradio for contributing great ideas and letting me twist and distort them
- Dave, Shane, and Matt for throwing down licks and keeping things light and fun in the studio
- Brian Gianelos for mastering wizardry
-
@harlanheresy for the beautiful drawing that serves as the foundation for the cover
-
@guitaryente for selling me the baritone guitar that I wrote this whole record with
- Colin and Steven for helping us bring these songs to life on stage over the last ~year
Please enjoy a wholesome slideshow pulled from the initial writing, recording, tweaking, mixing etc. A direct link to the album on bandcamp is in my bio. Thank you for listening ❤️🔥
