3 truths nobody tells you about pricing your art.
I figured most of this out the hard way — adjusting my prices in my head based on who was asking, waiting until I felt “ready” to charge what the work was actually worth, not realizing that inconsistency was quietly eroding trust with the people I most wanted to work with.
Nobody handed me a map for this part of being an artist.
That’s the whole reason I do 1:1 mentorship sessions at Red Line Design Studio — to be the person I didn’t have.
Save this for when you need it. And if you want to work through pricing (or anything else in your practice) with someone who’s been in it, link in bio to book a session. →
A lot of artists ask me: “What do we actually do in a session?”
So here’s exactly what it looks like. →
You bring the question. I bring 30+ years of building a creative business in Los Angeles. We spend the time on whatever is most alive for you right now — and you leave knowing what to do next.
No templates. No generic advice. One artist sitting with another who’s figured some things out.
Two ways to start:
+ Clarity Session: 30 min, $100 — one focused question, one clear next step
+ Full Session: 60 min, $300 — a deeper dive into your practice and business
Video call or in person at the studio in Silver Lake.

For a long time I kept the business side of being an artist a private struggle.
Pricing conversations felt awkward. Talking to collectors felt like performing. Every time someone asked “what do you charge?” I either undersold myself or froze.
I figured it out. Slowly, imperfectly, and with no one showing me how.
That’s why I started the 1:1 Artists Business Mentorship at Red Line Design Studio.
Not to give you a formula. But to be the person I wish I’d had — someone who’s in it, who’s built something real, and who can sit with you and help you figure out what comes next.
If you’re an artist who’s done making it up as you go, I’d love to work with you.
Single sessions now open. Link in bio to book.

One of the parts of this work I genuinely love is talking to collectors about the art.
Not the selling part — the conversation part.
What draws someone to a piece. What they want to live with and why. The moment when a collector says something that stops you mid-sentence because they’ve named something in the work you hadn’t quite found words for yourself.
Those conversations are some of the best ones I have.
What took me longer to learn was how to create the conditions for that conversation to happen — how to be present, how to talk about the work in a way that invites people in rather than keeping them at arm’s length.
The business of art doesn’t have to feel like a different person than the one who makes it.
That’s what I work on with artists in 1:1 sessions — how to show up in the business the same way you show up in the studio.

This is Red Line Design Studio.
A working art studio in Los Angeles — building relationships with artists, through mentorship, teaching and curation.
Red Line Design started as my own personal art practice and because I believe artists deserve more than a transactional relationship with the institutions and people around their work — I started mentoring and guiding, using my years as an interior design professional as a base.
Mentorship, workshops and video series creation are one way I assist other artists build practices that last.
I share this so you know what you’re stepping into when you book a session. You’re not hiring a business coach. You’re working with a studio that’s been in it, and is still in it — alongside you.
1:1 sessions are open now.
— Clarity Session: 30 minutes · $100
— Full session: 60 minutes · $300

I come from a long line of incredibly fierce, strong, honest and kind women. This is my Auntie Sal and my youngest daughter Em at the wedding of my cousin @dindylouise a few years ago. My aunt is a writer and was a scientist when I was growing up. She taught me about all forms of art and creativity, and the importance of them in sustaining our society. I hope I have passed those same things along to both my girls. Happy Friday Friends. xo
Lovely afternoon with @elizadaygreen at Denenberg Fine Art viewing Art Deco, a photography show showcasing the work of LA photographer Robert Landau. LA has such a beautiful collection of Art Deco Architecture.
