British indie brand,
@aerainstruments , dropped their latest collaboration last night at Todd Snyder’s flagship boutique in New York City’s Nomad neighborhood, and it absolutely slaps.
Consisting of two models – “Whiteout” and “Blackout” – both limited to 25 pieces, the watches were inspired by an off-road journey Mr. Snyder took in Iceland, with the Blackout representing lava and black volcanic sand, while the Whiteout lifts its design cues from the clear, glacial waters endemic to the region.
Both watches are based on the Aera D-1, which means 300M of water-resistance, a ceramic 120-click bezel, 3-D blocks of Super-Luminova, and a rounded, organic case with a deeply domed sapphire crystal that flows seamlessly into the curved, one-piece dial. One notable departure from the D-1, which is crafted from 904L stainless steel, is the collaboration’s use of DLC-treated titanium, a first for the brand. Under the hood is a tried and tested Selitta SW200, though in upgraded “elabore” specification.
Price? That has yet to be officially released, but you can expect a small premium over the base D-1, which lists for $2,675 on Aera’s website. (Think $2900 and you’re not far off.)
Our take? Well, we’ve been unabashed fans of Aera from day one, and
@craniotes already owns a Pilot P-1 “Founder’s Edition”, so our opinion is probably biased. But yeah, we love ‘em. (Durr.) No, they’re not cheap, but yes, they’re extremely limited, and we expect both versions to move fast once they go live on Todd Snyder’s website this coming Tuesday, February 10th at 10am EST. As such, if this TS X A collab is up your alley like it is ours, you should probably set an alarm. 😉
