Hi, I’m Peter — a mixer and producer based just outside Dresden, working with artists internationally.
I mainly focus on rock, alternative and prog, working closely with artists to shape the sound of their records, from recording to the final mix.
Things have been a bit quiet here lately, as I’ve been busy mixing. Some recent projects are already out, and over the next few weeks I’ll start sharing a bit more about it all.

In January, @avatarmetal began recording their new album in Germany, once again collaborating with longtime producer @jayruston - and bringing engineer @recordmixing on board.
The session took place at Castle Studios, where Peter had previously worked with the band on Feathers & Flesh and later on the Tower acoustic single. Jay has produced every Avatar album after Feathers & Flesh, making this the first collaboration between the band's trusted producer and their original @castlestudiosde engineer.
Over several productive and creative weeks, new sounds took shape before the journey continued in Finland. Swipe for a few behind-the-scenes moments - more to come!

Recording vocals is not always easy but can be a lot of fun, especially when you can try things and the singer is open to it. And that's always the case with @lizzardmusic Mat on the mic. In the end, we had some fantastic harmonies going on as well. The @soyuzmicrophones sounded great and was the clear winner on his vocals. Good times!

Still really like how this record sounds - dense, atmospheric, heavy in places, but still leaving space for their details to breathe.
One of the things I’ve always loved about post-rock and post-metal records is how far arrangement choices can really shape the emotional weight of a song, long before the mix even starts.

Every mix starts the same way for me. Listening, figuring out what the song actually needs - and what it doesn’t.
There are lots of ways a song can sound, but for me it’s about making the right decisions and building something that supports the music, without getting in the way. I usually spend quite a bit of time on that in the beginning, making sure what I feel actually works for the song...but also not afraid to try things out.

The @davidslieder album ‘Wo Der Mond Die Erde Küsst’ came out towards the end of last year.
I had the chance to record this one - live to tape, with an incredible group of musicians, including guest appearances from @maxprosa and @felixmeyer.eu singing in front of a small choir.
Recording like this was exciting and a lot of fun and, essentially, came down to capturing great performances and letting the songs speak for themselves.
The album turned out beautifully and has already received recognition from the ‘Deutscher Preis der Schallplattenkritik’.

A few years ago, I had the chance to spend some time at a Mix With The Masters masterclass with Bob Clearmountain.
Hearing how he approaches balance, space and perspective in a mix was a great reminder that, in the end, it always comes down to the song: emotion, performance and making the right decisions for the music. Somehow had to think of that again today.

At the end of last year, I mixed the new @voicesofmetropolis album FOCUS A SKYLINE.
Their blend of energy, melody and heaviness stood out right away and made this a really fun record to work on. Also, the lyrics added another layer and made me focus on getting the vocals to sit where they can tell the story.
The album came together working remotely with the band, and as you can tell from the screen grab, we had a relaxed time bringing it to life!

I received my @avatarmetal ‘Don’t Go In The Forest’ vinyl a little while ago, and I’m proud to have been part of this one.
Ten years after Feathers & Flesh, this record felt even more creative, and just as much fun to work on. Recording this with producer @jayruston has been a blast, and we spent day and night with the band in the studio, capturing some of their best work to date.
The response has been incredible! Songs from the record made their way into the Billboard Rock charts, reaching the Top 5, while the album hit No. 1 on the Hard Music Albums charts in the US and Top 10 in several countries. Reviews are great as well…good times.
