Reception is proud to present the Irish debut of UK composer and artist Simon Whetham alongside Galilea Roto (MX/IRE)!
(supported by Interface Inagh)
7.30pm - 09/05/2026 - tickets via RA or link in bio.
Since 2005 Simon Whetham has developed a practice of working with sonic activity as a material
for creation. He often uses environmental sound, employing a variety of methods and techniques
in order to obtain often unnoticed and obscured sonic phenomena. He explores ways of creating
physical traces of sound, and of channelling and transforming energy, most recently salvaging
and repurposing obsolete consumer technology.
Collaborations with sound artists/musicians include long term projects with Tarab (Eamon Sprod) and Gregory Büttner, and past collaborators include Scanner, Derek Piotr, Iris Garrelfs, John Grzinich, Ryu Hankil, Xenia Pestova, Alan Courtis, Kate Carr, Rhodri Davies, Christine Schörkhuber and Slavek Kwi.
Galilea Roto is an audiovisual artist from Nuevo León, Mexico, whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses drawing, tattoo, poetry, video, and experimental music. Her work navigates the intersection of the personal and the collective, engaging with themes such as language, migration, “home,” pain, and sound as a vessel of memory. Through a combination of lived experience and research, she creates a dialogue between individual and communal narratives. Each piece fosters reflection, attentive listening, and emotional resonance while challenging the conventions of traditional media.
Big announcement!
Reception presents Mike Reed’s Separatist Party with support from Cian Nugent - 24 June, 8pm, Bello Bar.
We are super excited about this show, Seperatist Party’s lp on Astral Spirits from 2023 is still on heavy rotation and the band features some of our favorite musicians from the last few years.
Ticket link in bio or via RA, early birds available so snap em up while they’re still going!
Chicago drummer Mike Reed convenes his Separatist Party in a twisting of musical landscapes. The project features poet/vocalist Marvin Tate, Ben LaMar Gay on Cornet, and the minimalist-psych trio of Bitchin Bajas. The Separatist Party’s music is often heavily rhythmic and synthesized, occasionally epic in scope, with Tate’s lyrics carving out images of fragmentation and isolation.
Starting with minimal loops, and adding concentric layers the band creates a collage inspired as much by Don Cherry and Pharoah Sanders as by the Krautrock of Can, keyboard explorations of Terry Riley, and street preacher monologues.

Reception presents Pink Glasses & Primitive Gauze!
March 28, Kirkos, 8pm!
Tickets available via link in bio, RA or on the door!
Pink Glasses is a project by drummer/filmmaker Temmuz Süreyya Gürbüz and guitarist Aonghus McEvoy, experimenting with whatever still qualifies as a “punk band” once the songs have been scattered around the clock. The project grew out of a shared appreciation for shambolic complexity and the persistent appeal of things that barely hold together. They'll be performing with an expanded line-up for this show.
Primitive Gauze is a minimal drone and ambient noise project by Alan Doyle, Doyle is a visual and audio artist from Wicklow. He runs the label Hibernian Leather and is also responsible for the projects Feral Torch and Pink Thistle.
Smashing - @someradonbelly
Reception proudly presents Black Coral's launch for their new 'Dark Coasts' release - a heaving mix of subharmonic frequencies and intense drone explorations.
Also on the night are rare live appearances by Icebear and Oniism!
Tickets: 12 on the door or via RA/link in bio!
Although this is the first solo Black Coral album, Cian Megannety has decades playing in bands such as Wild Rocket, Wolfbait, Worst, BB84 and Creepy Future. Drone has been a constant thread in his contributions to these projects, featured both subtly and explicitly.

Tickets available on the door, Resident Advisor or via link in bio!
Sharon Phelan is an artist whose work spans performance, installation, writing and composition, with specific attention to sound, voice, resonance and poetics of place.
Phil Maguire is a Cork-based Scottish composer and sound artist, producing electronic sound works with synthesisers and computers. In 2025 he was awarded a doctorate in Music Composition from University College Cork. Phil’s experimental music practice explores emergence and emptiness, of self, machine, and space. It draws from practice-led research that includes composing, performing, and presenting works across the spectrum of minimalism.
Aonghus McEvoy is a Dublin based composer, improviser and guitar player. Aonghus' work moves between collaborations with improvisers, indeterminate scores for small ensembles and skewed takes on folk idioms.
