My dear friend @liviahengel and I often talk about “radical trust,” particularly when traveling solo: an unwavering belief that the world is good, people are good, and if you’re in need, someone will always step in to help you.
My adventure through Japan last month affirmed this belief. At every turn, I felt embraced by old friends, new friends, and complete strangers alike. @youandme0831 curated two beautiful days for us in Kamakura and Yokohama; @rina_shirai introduced me to her partner and taught me how to properly whisk matcha at his bar, @bar_werk ; @satomisakaguccchi and @yuzo_elvis celebrated the end of the year with me at the @theokuratokyo ; the teams at @visityame and @craftinn_te introduced me to some of Kyushu’s greatest artisans; and Jenkins-san at @izakayahighspirits made me a Thanksgiving dinner I’ll never forget.
