We’re excited to share a project that is especially close to us because it is our debut as costume designers for the theatre play Bolderāja at Mihaila Čehova Rīgas Krievu teātris, directed by Elmārs Seņkovs.
we researched how people dress for weddings and noticed one common thread: the need to look and behave like everything is under control, just for that one day. people carefully curate a version of themselves that looks fun, approachable, "well dressed". then, with a few drinks, that curated personality starts to migrate and what is left is "real you".
we explored how this effort to appear “normal” can tip into something slightly absurd. the more you try to hold it together, the more it begins to feel off, almost unnatural. we used this as the starting point for building our character costumes.
