First, this sound is šÆ perfection with its Gimme More background.
Second, after hearing it I immediately thought of @ashleywinsteadbooks . She is the author of three suspense-related stories:
āļø In My Dreams, I Hold a Knife
(dark academia vibes)
šŖ” The Last Housewife
(cult vibes)
š Midnight Is The Darkest Hour
(Twilight inspired, small town corruption vibes)
And two inter-connected romance stories:
š³ļø Fool Me Once
(environmental politics, lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers vibes)
š The Boyfriend Candidate
(education politics, fake dating vibes)
The way Ashley is able to weave through genres, crafting through-provoking stories with characters who are messy yet relatable is iconic.
I love all of her books, but I feel a personal connection with The Boyfriend Candidate as Ashley has described it partially as a love letter to teachers!
Have you read any of Ashleyās work?
What are you reading this weekend?
My weekend is booked! Itās the May long weekend here in šØš¦, I have a new case of Coke Zero Cherry Float, the sun is shining (FINALLY), and Iām so excited to be reading (again, FINALLY).
Itās my tradition to read the latest book from @carleyfortune during this weekend and Iām happy to continue it with Our Perfect Storm. Iām also diving into The Anniversary, the latest from @alexfinlayauthor .
I know Iāll be turning pages all weekend long!
Also shoutout to @millenialkyle for the inspiration for this video. If youāre a millennial, and not following him, you should be cause everything he posts is so relatable!
About Last Night š š
I couldnāt have been more excited to learn that @carleyfortune was coming back to Halifax to celebrate the launch of her new book, Our Perfect Storm, and to talk about the upcoming television series adaptation of her first novel, Every Summer After. The best part was sharing it with book friends!
I couldāve listened to Carley and Dakshana Bascaramurty talk for two hours; their conversation was witty, insightful and humorous. Fun fact, Dakshana and Carley used to work together at The Globe and Mail, and that familiarity with each other shone through!
Book friends really are the best; getting to meet (and re-meet) some local Bookstagrammers was so much fun. I hope we get to do it again soon!
Thank you to @bookmarkhfx , @penguinrandomca and @penguincanada for organizing such a fantastic event!
Raise your hand if itās been a long week šš»āāļø
I was DRAGGING today with tiredness, but I did go to a fantastic Pilates class this morning, had a good day at work, and got to go to a book event for Carley Fortuneās latest release, Our Perfect Storm with some book friends. All in all a good day.
But I know Iām gonna be tired tomorrow⦠at least itāll be Friday and itās a long weekend!
Do you black out once you finish a book? š
Iām finally ready to write reviews again, which means going back to January reads⦠and trying to remember what I liked about the books! Luckily I take notes on my phone that I can refer to, and Iām going to try to make the review short but impactful.
But seriously, even a five star read can be a great experience and I canāt remember a thing that happened ⦠sometimes!
What newly published are you most excited for this week?
Without a doubt, @alexfinlayauthor is an auto-read author for me and his latest The Anniversary is out today! Iāve been greatly anticipating this one, because I know once I start reading it, Finlay will have me turning the pages, unable to keep the story out of my head!
It may be exactly what I need to get out of my reading slump! A huge thank you to @minotaur_books and @raincoastbooks for the gifted copy!
Has anyone else been in a funk lately?!
(Or maybe my books are saying this to me, and telling me to get reading!)
Itās not just reading. I am lacking motivation for so many things lately. Maybe I just desperately need some consistent sunny days. But if anyone finds my motivation, Iād like it back any time now please!
I did go see The Devil Wears Prada 2 yesterday and really loved it. It felt like a good mix of nostalgia combined with some character development in who these people are 20 years later. Plus I loved seeing locations in NYC that Iāve been to (looking at you Bubbyās). All in all, a very fun movie that felt like a worthy sequel!
Have you tried Murdle yet?!
I just finished Volume 1 last week, and am working away at Volume 2. The overarching stories of Detective Logicoās adventures and the cross between Clue and Suduko are addictive. I absolutely love the brain break it offers, and allows me to do something that has me off my phone (plus I love a murder themed activity š)
Iāve also introduced a few friends to the books and the online daily puzzle, and thatās been a lot of fun to discuss which ones we found tricky or to offer hints to help each other out!
If you havenāt tried Murdle yet, I canāt recommend it enough!
Who has time to think of anyone else when youāre busy reading?!
(Actually Iām busy reading and going to Pilates and working and watching shows and being social with friends and trying to keep my place clean!!)
The week is flying by though and itās almost Friday! Iām slowly getting back into reading after a terrible April, and great books like Mad Mabel by Sally Hepworth are helping!
Itās not just a hobby. Itās a moment. A commitment. A lifestyle. Iām locked in.
(Also Iād like a whole day just to read please. Actually maybe even two whole days. Plus one to catch up on writing reviews so I donāt feel so far behind.)
Is the sun shining where you are?!
Itās been freezing and rainy in Nova Scotia the last bit, so seeing the sun and warm temperatures today felt like coming back to life. Like a house plant š
I am also reading! Iām just about finished Cross Your Heart and Hope He Dies by @jennyeldermoke . This rom com mystery is light-hearted and funny, just what I needed right now to get back into reading regularly again! I think next up may be the latest from Carley Fortune, which published today!
Letās hope for some more sun throughout May, since we had April showers. Itās time for flowers!
