I’m very casual about these three songwriting credits šŸ˜‰ As anyone who’s read IT GOES LIKE THIS can guess, I strongly support musicians producing their own work—major kudos to @its.beti.zet for being such a multi-talented artist. I learn more about songwriting each time we work together šŸŽ¶ #songwriter #queermusic #sapphicmusic

Madison, meet the world. World, meet my ambitious, bisexual wannabe campaign manager. She's been a long time coming. It takes so many people to usher a book into being, but thank you most of all to my editor @diebelrah and my agent @jesserrera for making my sophomore novel possible. I'll be launching SOMETHING LIKE POSSIBLE tonight at 7pm ET via @porter_square_books with @marisakanter , and I'd love to see you in the chat! Registration link in my bio šŸ’™ #SomethingLikePossible #booklove #yalit #bibooks #wlwbooks #sapphicreads #queerya

It's here! I'm absolutely thrilled to reveal the cover for my next Young Adult book, SOMETHING LIKE POSSIBLE, out on 5/23/23 from @fiercereads . Swipe for the book description!Ā  Many, many thanks toĀ @jbianchi_illustrations for the amazing design andĀ @lgions for the wonderful illustration. They have so perfectly captured the essence of SLP—Madison's determination, Victoria's softness (and her car keys), against the backdrop of girl power and queer pride.Ā  I'm so excited to share this story with you next spring. Goodreads and preorder links in my bio! #yabooks #yabookstagram #queerya #bookcover #bookcoverreveal #sapphicbooks #lgbtqya

Minneapolis šŸ’™ [edit: angrier, of course, but it was 4 or maybe 5am and I was debating between furious and livid and whether I should say heartbroken too and my spelling has deserted me along with sleep]

The best thing about reading is reading. The second best thing is talking about what you're reading with other people. The third best thing is the statistics.Ā  I was impressed with how steadily I read this year—it was a bit of a push in December to meet my goal of 75 new-to-me books, but not too drastic! (Re-reads and millions of words of fic uncounted in this.)Ā  PRH far and away won the publisher race, but they have Berkley & Del Rey (Temeraire'sĀ trad pub imprint), so it's not a surprise.Ā  As per usual, I almost entirely read physical books, mostly from the library. (My NetGalley account is so dormant, they emailed me about it, but I just can't do it! PDFs or nothing if I'm going to read on a screen.)Ā  And finally, publication year! I'm also pleased with how many I read that were published pre-2022. Yes, about half of those were the Temeraire series, but onlyĀ half! It's fun to read the just-published book that we're all dying over... but I also love peeking back and seeing what I missed.Ā  #amreading

I read right up until the last minute, so I never make my favorites list until the new year has started—but it's here! Unsurprisingly, it's full of queer romance (contemporary and historical). I feel like I mostly read SF/F this year, although it doesn't look like it from this list. (To be fair, I only listed one of the eight Temeraire books I read in 2025.) Contemporary romance: - On Her Terms - Friends With Benefits - The Shots You Take Historical fiction: - Earl Crush - Ladies in Hating - To Sketch a Scandal - Everything Glittered Nonfiction: - Lost Connections - Everything Is Tuberculosis - Evicted - Let Only Red Flowers Bloom SF/F: - Victory of Eagles - Sunrise on the Reaping Now to choose my first read of 2026... #bookrec #sapphicreads #sapphicbookstagram

The other day, for obvious reasons, someone reminded me that I had in fact written a hockey scene in my sapphic YA contemporary non-hockey book. (And there was so much hockey in the hockey scene, I had to edit some hockey out.) (This is what happens when you’re Minnesotan.) Shoutout to the PWHL, Heated Rivalry, and queer sports fans everywhere šŸ’šŸ’™ #hockey #pwhl #sapphicreads

I finished another journal! I began this one when I started college. My 20s are scattered across a few journals, mostly depending on which I had in which location at the time, so it isn’t comprehensive. I haven’t read it through again, but I did glance at the opening pages—and there’s a reference to the book I started writing when I was sixteen and finished in that first dorm room at eighteen. It was the first novel-length work I ever completed. It is not fit for publication, but it had to come first. The person who wrote that first book would not have expected any of the writing I’ve done over the last several years... but she would feel at home in the project I’ve been working on this year. (She wouldn’t know WHY she felt at home even in its queerness, but she would.) It’s good to come home. At some point in the last couple of years, I started using ā€œThis one firstā€ as my guiding principle. There are other goals—tasks—ideas—but for now, there is this one. I have it written both on a Post-it and on one of my three whiteboards (all essential). I have many other blank journals to fill. I have other books to write. But this Jane Austen journal had to come first. As did the novel I finished when I was eighteen. And this year, this novel. This one first. #authorsofinstagram #journal #janeausten

When @its.beti.zet invited me to write another song with them, I sent over some lyric snippets, and this is the one they chose. We had two great ideas for the direction of the song—so we wrote both, out today šŸ‘‘ #newmusic #songwriter #queermusic

Several years ago, an early critique partner spotted a beautiful pot that she (correctly) thought fit my aesthetic. The pot came with a plant, christened Stellaluna, who was metaphorically resonant right through the end. I am not a plant person, but nevertheless, over the course of those years, I sourced the following from friends and family across the country and the world: more dirt for her; a new pot (later discarded) and clay chips; watering tips and life-extending surgical information. She was a community project. She survived being left alone for months (unexpectedly) in 2020-2021. She survived a well intended but actually ill advised repotting attempt. She survived a move last summer... but she couldn't survive my most recent one. Perhaps I was too hasty, too careless, but I am now free of the unexpected bounty (the unwanted bonus). So now I'm left with what I was always meant to have: a painted pot. I have no desire to acquire another plant. RIP Stellaluna (2019-2025) #succulent
