Join us TODAY May 9, 2–4 PM for a special book signing at Community Book Center with Robert Tannen for Frank Gehry & Robert Tannen: Art, Architecture & Ideas.
This compelling publication explores Tannen’s expansive career alongside his decades-long friendship and collaboration with Frank Gehry. Through essays, personal reflections, and work across disciplines, the book offers a rare look into their shared creative vision.
Published during Gehry’s lifetime, it now also serves as a tribute to his lasting influence on architecture and culture.

During @jazzfest 2025, we introduced a new @eternalseeds tradition, “Eternal Flowers,” our way of honoring New Orleans giants who continue to pour back into the city that raised them.
One of last year’s honorees was the incomparable Mama Vera Warren-Williams , the creator of Community Book Center (@readcbc ). Mama Vera is a living pillar of culture, literacy, and community whose impact continues to shape generations in New Orleans and we are honored to celebrate her every day.
Over the next few days, we’’ll be revisiting our 2025 flowers with exciting anticipation as we prepare to announce our 2026 honorees.
Stay tuned.

Celebrate independent bookstores & their owners! This Saturday, April 25, 2026 is Independent Bookstore Day, and we are celebrating Community Book Center Founder & recent Artie Award Honoree for Public Service, Ms. Vera Warren-Williams! Vera Founded Community Book Center 46 years ago in New Orleans, and it’s the oldest Black-owned bookstore in the city! Moreover, it’s on the historic Bayou Road- the FIRST road laid in #NewOrleans and the current hub of several Black-owned businesses. So, whether you are here for Jazz Fest or doing a bookstore crawl, please stop by and say hello to Mama Vera and Mama Jennifer @readcbc 📚📖 #jazzfest #independentbookstore #blackownedbusiness
What an amazing evening of engaging dialogue from community members in New Orleans at Community Book Center @readcbc ! We deconstructed the complexities of race in Cuba, explained the differences in Black racial categorization between the U.S. and Cuba, and discussed the role of activism for equality and self-actualized liberation as a Diasporic commonality. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to the conversation!
