💌 "Save Me A Branch" We were always half barefoot, half wild, climbing perakka trees until our hands smelled of green skin and sun. You laughed when I slipped, I laughed harder when you pulled me up, and somewhere between those branches we learned what being sisters meant— a little teasing, a lot of catching each other. We sang Barbie Girl loud enough in the car for everyone to wonder if we had microphones hidden in our pockets. On trips, your playlists were half the journey, your stories the other half. You were an amazing big sister long before I knew what that really meant. Life here without you is like breathing in a room where the air is just a little too thin. I have rambled to you about things that made no sense— wild, messy thoughts— and you sat through all of it, patient, even when I tried your patience. And then there were the things that changed me for the better, and you were there for those too, clapping louder than anyone. You sat me down with accounts books when numbers refused to speak my language. Somehow, you made debit and credit feel like they belonged in the same sentence as love. Even when I couldn’t understand for the life of me, I knew one thing: I could always call you. Anytime. And you would be there. Berryboy. God, I miss hearing that. I miss all of it— and I wish I hadn’t taken it for granted. Every summer, small me, coming home— best two months of my little life. Our childhood was chaos wrapped in sunlight, laughter spilling through the cracks. I couldn’t have asked for a better kind of madness. From birthdays to festivals, from long nights talking in the same room to months apart in different cities— you were always there. It didn’t matter where the map placed us, you were a constant. I am so proud of you. Of every single thing you’ve done. Of the way you carried yourself like the world was lucky to have you— because it was. Because we were. You were the best sister, the best friend, the best daughter anyone could ask for. Happy Birthday, Chechi. I miss you. I am already so tired of pretending that hurting less is the same as healing, tired of being told to toughen up when all I’ve ever done is survive by feeling everything too deeply. I don’t want my pain to dull or my memories to lose their sharpness, because the ache is the only proof that what I lost mattered. Every time the world asks me to harden, it feels like another small funeral for the person I used to be. I carry grief like a second heartbeat, constant and exhausting, and I’m scared that one day even that will fade. I don’t want to become someone who shrugs at loss or learns to swallow tears quietly.
