BREAKING — The Art Institute of Chicago has confirmed that Grant Wood’s iconic American Gothic vanished from its gallery overnight in what officials are calling “one of the most unusual security breaches in the museum’s history.”
Early‑morning staff discovered an empty frame, a single work glove, and what investigators described as “a suspiciously well‑placed pitchfork” left behind. Federal authorities are reviewing security footage and interviewing witnesses as the museum temporarily closes portions of the Modern Wing. While early reports suggest a highly coordinated operation, officials have not ruled out the possibility of an elaborate prank.
The Art Institute is urging the public to report any information — particularly sightings of a stern‑looking couple carrying a large canvas near a farmhouse. And if you’re reading this … happy April Fools.
