I am a professional refurbisher, and I make art using broken computers. This is a series of 201 NFTs released over 201 days, comprised of unpublished images spanning more than a decade of exploration.
Using defects as filters to affect my photography, I have collected hundreds of devices with broken screens, misfiring graphics processors, naturally circuit-bent display hardware, and modified polarized elements. I re-photograph my images behind these distortions, creating layers across multiple devices in order to achieve a desired effect.
These broken, discarded machines are transformed into creative tools and often become art installations themselves. “Broken” is simply a failure of perspective, as simply changing the intended purpose makes the old new and useful again.
The nature of this form is ephemeral, and a glimmer of light may last a mere fraction of a second. Therefore the product of my work can only be a photograph…a photograph which will always be — compared to the brilliance of the machine itself — relatively LOWREZ.
Hi All! I make art using broken computers, and I’m starting a series of 100 NFTs over 100 days, all broken screens, all 1/1! This title image is BSODT000, minted now!

I have no idea if this will be successful, but I’m inspired by the idea of working on art daily to build momentum. I have shelves of broken screens so this will be a way to force myself to photograph them all.
To provide context for the images, I will occasionally post ancillary photos of the broken devices involved on Twitter @rdklinc , and potentially Instagram as well. I generally avoid apps and effects, using only minor color correction when necessary, and I often put my own photography behind the broken screens to bring out color.
Thanks for looking!
Coming soon from the broken computers that brought you “Broken Screen of the Day”…
BADGPU000 — series announcement. Edition of 7, starting at 0.5 XTZ.

I am a professional laptop refurbisher, and I make art using broken computers. This is a series of 100 NFTs over 100 days, 7 editions each, all made using graphics processor defects! I have collected hundreds of broken laptops for this purpose. I’m inspired by the idea of working on art daily in order to build momentum.
Bad graphics processing units (GPUs) have always plagued modern laptops, and their artifacts (visual evidence of a defect) appear in the form of geometric shapes, a spotty impressionistic pattern, a severely skewed image, or, most often, just a black screen. "Creative" GPU defects are very rare, and I use them as filters to affect my photography. Most assume that artifacts are random, but I have found they are actually a measured response to the content and characteristics of an image on the screen. Photographing their interpretation of my images constitutes a true collaboration with technology.
LOWREZ200 (of 201) SERIES COMPLETE!!!
(“201” is the poster, which is actually 000)
Thank you so much to everyone who has followed/collected along this 200-day journey! The best part about this is that I’ve made a lot of new friends, and the community out there is amazing!
If you’re interested, a ton of the 201 images are still available. I will be re-posting my available NFTs here on X, one per day, until I start my new series PLRZTN in a few months.
Funny observation about doing a 200-image series: It’s super hard to know if I’m accidentally minting an image I’ve already minted! Every day I had to scan my entire history of NFTs/Instagram to make sure my choice for the day hadn’t already been posted!
Thanks again!
John
