“People may not always see everything that a midwife does, but the impact lasts beyond the perinatal period; it lasts a lifetime.” ❤️
On International Day of the Midwife, we say thank you to midwives across the UK and the world.
Midwives save lives, support families and are essential to safe maternity care – proper staffing, support and investment is required to do this work safely.

While on placement, student nurses may see firsthand how often nursing teams handle hazardous medicinal products (HMPs). These medicines are essential for patients, but they can also put the staff who prepare, administer, or dispose of them at real risk.
Even so, protections across the UK still aren’t consistent. In turn, that affects all of us learning the job as much as the staff we work alongside. Swipe through the carousel above to learn more. 🔗 Read the full magazine piece at the link in our bio, which breaks down further what HMPs are, what more you can do to protect yourself and why we’re calling for:
• a clear UK‑wide definition of HMPs
• an agreed, comprehensive list of which medicines count
• strong guidance, so every stage of the HMP lifecycle is safe for staff, students, and patients
[Alt text: A carousel detailing the importance of hazardous medicinal products (HMPs), including what they are, how students, nursing staff could be affected, and what the RCN is calling for in their regulation.
