COMING SOON! . Tom Stephens: Echoes in Color . January 20 - April 11, 2026 Patricia Thompson Alumni and Skylight Galleries on campus at @ringlingcollege . Reception: Friday, January 30, 5-8pm . ABOUT: The Galleries of Ringling College is proud to present Tom Stephens: Echoes in Color, an exhibition showcasing the recent work of Sarasota-based artist and Ringling College alumnus Tom Stephens (Class of 1997). Known for his expressive use of color, gestural brushwork, and emotionally charged compositions, Stephens’ paintings explore the tension between abstraction and representation. His dynamic surfaces reveal a deep engagement with process and intuition, resulting in works that resonate with both personal introspection and universal human experience. . Rooted in a lifelong dedication to painting, Stephens’ practice reflects the evolution of an artist who continually pushes the boundaries of visual language. This exhibition brings together a selection of current and past works that highlight the artist’s ability to distill complex emotions into powerful, atmospheric imagery. As both a respected member of Sarasota’s creative community and a proud Ringling graduate, Stephens exemplifies the enduring impact of the College’s alumni, contributing meaningfully to the region’s vibrant cultural landscape.. . Under One Tree: Branching Our Paths is a celebration of the Asian and Asian American experience and the stories that have been passed down through generations. This exhibition will be in the Willis Smith gallery, from Jan 20th to 26th, 2026. Submissions are open now, so please feel free to submit your work through the link in bio!! We embark on this journey through a series of vignettes from personal and cultural experiences of Asian and Asian American artists. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing snippets of memories and experiences from different cultures to celebrate Asian stories. This poem, 'mehendi', is a look into a moment. A memory of mehendi day at an Indian wedding from the eyes of a little kid. Mehendi, in Indian culture, represents the celebration of marriage, good luck, and coming of age. This poem follows a kid stumbling upon maturity and intricacy as they attempt to make sense out of it. mehendi by arnav vaidyanathan “Baarish se zyada poore ghar mein (more than the rain, the house) mehendi ki khusbhoo aa rahi hai,”(is filled with the scent of mehendi) Papa doesn’t like the smell. Mumma ne bola, “Didi ko pani deke aao,” (Mumma said, “go give didi water”) as I follow the chum-chums of churiyan (bangles) and laughter All aunties are sunbathing in silk – “Dhyaan se, ragadhna nahi chahiye.” (careful, it shouldn’t smudge) Careful vines wrap around the dulhan’s (bride's) arms. Was that the day I dreamed of being an artist? “Watch your step, abhi tera time nahi aaya”, Nani laughs (it’s not your time yet) I run to Mumma for more kaju katli as I slip on the rain. #art #asia #asianstudentalliance #ringlingcollege
