The beauty of textiles patterns has always served us in designing our cakes. This creation was a result of a collaboration with the editors of @martha_weddings

A stretch of silk from a Victorian-era dress provides a glimpse of a lost art:
ribbon embroidery, in which thin lengths of ribbon are embroidered onto fabric to create intricate designs.
To mimic its tactile quality for a cake,Ben-Israel marshaled all of the ardent attention to detail of the era’s seam-stresses, shaping sugar-paste carnations by hand before affixing them to the sides of three fondant-covered tiers.
Tucked between the sumptuous carnation-bedecked layers are two shorter tiers decorated with icing and sugar-paste flowers and stems.

Sweet and unassuming in size, Alexia and Drake’s wedding cake still required attentive preparation. Each icing detail was thoughtfully measured and placed to create a composition that felt graceful and refined.

Congratulations to Tatiana and Frans, who celebrated their wedding this past Saturday. The sugar flowers adorning their cake reflected the union of two cultures - exotic blooms, from anthuriums to orchids, honoring the bride, alongside beloved Dutch varieties such as tulips and ranunculus, celebrating the groom.

We honored his fascination with mycology through a palette of earthy browns and beiges, complete with sculpted sugar fungi inspired by the beauty of mushrooms.

We’ve created many grand cakes for movies… though they rarely enjoy more than a fleeting moment on screen.
In The Devil Wears Prada 2, keep an eye out for ours during the 75th birthday scene of Irv Ravitz, Runway Magazine owner, portrayed by @tiborfeldman , as the camera sweeps the room. Blink, and you may miss it.
Incidentally, this marks our second recent project starring Meryl Streep. In the season 4 finale of Only Murders in the Building, her character, Loretta Durkin, shares a moment (and our wedding cake) with Martin Short as Oliver Putnam.

ROSE PARADE
This stunner of a cake, with roses that appear to bloom before your very eyes, takes its cues from a swatch of graphic 1960s floral cotton. The leaf-and-bud designs were photocopied from the fabric to make patterns, then cut out from tinted sugar paste using a craft knife and transferred to the white-fondant-covered tiers.
The finishing touch? A sprinkling of yellow sugar-paste roses throughout for an eye-popping embellishment.

Ron Ben-Israel went from a West Village walk-up to designing cakes for names like Martha Stewart, now creating intricate, made-to-order pieces in his Garment District studio.
Appointments only, but the level of detail, from hand-shaped sugar flowers to custom-built structures, is next level.
