I'm honored to be among the recipients of the 2021 Individual Artist Fellowship Awards from New Jersey State Council on the Arts in the category of Interdisciplinary Art. With thanks, appreciation, and congratulations to the other artists.
The Individual Artist Fellowships are competitive awards to New Jersey artists in 12 rotating disciplines granted solely on independent peer panel assessment of work samples. The anonymous process is focused on artistic quality, and awards may be used to help artists produce new work and advance their careers. New Jersey artists applied for awards this year in the categories of crafts, interdisciplinary performance and interdisciplinary visual art, photography, and playwriting and screenwriting. This program is carried out in partnership with the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. #newjerseycouncilonthethearts #midatlanticartsfoundation #interdisciplinaryart #thedepartmentofreparativehistory

Curious Matter begins its 2026 inquiry:
ON BOOKS
The form, flow, and force of books.
Throughout the year we’ll be exploring books as artworks and artifacts; as structures that shape visual, textual, and material practices; and as vehicles through which ideas circulate, expand, and gather force.
Beginning this Sunday, we open the inquiry with:
LE BOUQUINISTE
our independent press kiosk featuring small independent presses, chapbooks, zines, and artist-made publications.
and
RANDOM MARGINALIA
incidental discoveries revealing the book as an object marked by attention, use, and response.

I shared a post a good while back praising NYU’s Institute for the Study of the Ancient World. This precious, intimate gallery is a stone’s throw from the Met. Once again, it hosts an exhibition not to be missed: Rodin’s Egypt. You’ve got until March 15. It surveys the impact of Egyptian art on Rodin’s practice. A real thrill to experience these juxtapositions. For me particularly, the liveliness of the Egyptian forms—which I usually read as static.
“Now I’ve made a collection of mutilated gods, in fragments, some masterpieces, I spend time with them; they teach me; I love this language of three thousand years ago, closer to nature than any other. I think I understand them, I visit them constantly; their grandeur soothes me.” —Auguste Rodin

In the days since Pompidou x Jersey City was halted, a familiar refrain has taken hold: “we never needed it; we already have great art here.”
In a new essay I examine what that claim leaves out—and the risks it poses moving forward. (Link in bio)

Appreciation to curators Ysabel Pinyol Blasi and Kele McComsey, and to fellow artists and panelists Sam Colt, David Friedman, Jaz Graf, Valerie Huhn, Kate Dodd, and Danielle Scott. I was honored to be in their company. Thank you for a delightful and engaging afternoon.
Artist Panel & Discussion: Counter-Archiving through Altered Books – Rebellion, Reclamation, and Re-Imagining the Future
Monira Foundation and Mana Contemporary’s running exhibition Open Book (altered) is both a love letter to and an interrogation of knowledge: the artists on display collapse temporality, challenge memory, and excise the past. Through varying degrees of alteration— from drawing to burning– they question civil responsibility and the existence of latent narratives in their found objects.
